Senior Director of Shelters - Denver

The Senior Director of Shelters, Denver directs and oversees the day-to-day operation of Denver Rescue Mission's (DRM) Denver-based shelters in accordance with established objectives, plans and philosophies, establishing appropriate goals and impact measures to evaluate program effectiveness. This position engages with and represents DRM in the community with partner and government engagement with the goal of providing services that honor the dignity of the guests being served, while working to provide a safer, more secure, more serene, more sanitary and more social environment with the ultimate goal of housing individuals and households that access DRM services. This position reports to the Vice-President of Programs, Denver, and will advise the Chief Program Officer, Vice President of Programs, Denver, and coordinate efforts with Northern Colorado on areas related to clinical interventions throughout the organization to support the Denver Rescue Mission Vision Statement: Through the power of Christ, work to bring an end to homelessness in Metro Denver and Northern Colorado, one life at a time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  

Programs

• Directly oversee and manage the shelter programs in metro Denver, taking ownership of the site operations.
• Provide direct supervision to the Director of Downtown Shelter Services and Director of 48th Shelter Services.
• Ensure that DRM's unique approach to meeting guest and participants on their Spiritual Point of Needs is maintained through Chaplain engagement.
• Coordinate the efforts of Clinical and Case Management within the shelters to meet the organizational goal of housing for those accessing services.
• Prioritize safety while striving to meet the needs of individuals. 
• Evaluate the effectiveness of shelter response and interventions, making recommendations and implementing changes to service delivery. 
• Ensure that the shelters remain in compliance with existing contracts and government regulations and requirements.
• Work closely with the Department of People and Culture to maintain adequate staffing presence.
• Work closely with the Department of People and Culture to develop ongoing training programs to ensure that staff are trained to perform their jobs.
• Ensure the DRM is proactively engaged with external partner agencies and government entities as related to shelter operations, which is crucial for our success. 
• In partnership with the VP of Operations, ensure that DRM operational needs are met in a timely manner in support of each facility’s unique goals.
• In partnership with the VP of Operations, ensure that the SCRIBE database and HMIS database is operating in full support of DRM’s case-planning and outcome reporting.
• In partnership with the VP of Development and their staff support their efforts to keep apprised of program-related changes, news, outcomes, and stories to support their ongoing efforts.
• In cooperation with Development and the CPO, work to pursue and manage government grants, contracts and other funding.
• Provide leadership over all related program budgets and work collaboratively to ensure technology needs are met.
• Effectively manage the annual operating budget, ensure continued financial viability of program services, property management, and housing growth, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered.
• Coordinate efforts to ensure client engagement throughout the continuum of care through relationships with the Senior Clinical Director and Senior Director of Homelessness Resolution.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.

Leadership

• As the Senior Director of Shelters, provide guidance and input on shelter-based interventions in Denver and coordinate efforts with shelters in Northern Colorado, advocating for best practices and compliance of government regulations related to client care.
• Work with the Senior Leadership Team to obtain appropriate licenses and maintain licenses by advising on appropriate processes and procedures, bringing areas of concern to the attention of the Senior Leadership Team.
• Advise and support efforts related to funding as associated with shelters.
• Manage and lead the Denver shelter staff, monitoring performance, performing annual reviews and building team cohesion across departments.
• Provide effective, inspiring leadership, as well as stewardship of Mission resources by being actively involved in overseeing shelter programs and services.
• Provide opportunities for staff, clients and partners to give feedback on program operations.
• Develop new and cultivate existing relationships within the community with the goal of building resources and support for the efforts of Denver Rescue Mission.<
