The Director of Coding is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Coding Department, including client project management, developing education and training programs for Coding staff, improving quality metrics, and maintaining strong client relationships. 

You will:

  • Be Customer-Centric
    • Maintain strong customer retention and satisfaction metrics
    • Anticipate customer needs and address concerns promptly
    • Participate in client meetings, providing updates on coding-related matters
    • Conduct customer account reviews on coding quality
  • Be Operations-Centric
    • Manage day-to-day operations of the Coding Department
    • Ensure scheduling, customer requests, and coder bench management
    • Collaborate with Division Auditors for internal coding audits
    • Oversee quality assurance, performance improvement, and employee development
    • Inform Sales of new business opportunities with existing customers
  • Innovate Coding Training Curriculum and Hiring Strategies
    • Participate in the redesign and enhancement of the existing training process for Coders
    • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify areas for improvement of our Coding Training program and implement changes that align with industry best practices
    • Explore innovative strategies for attracting new talent, potentially including developing new programs targeted to individuals with no prior coding experience or building connections with external Coding Programs to create talent funnels
  • Provide Supervision, Leadership & Communication
    • Direct subordinate employees, manage advancement, promotion, and change of status
    • Ensure staffing for quality services according to contract agreements
    • Conduct performance appraisals, issue corrective actions, and manage personnel matters
    • Build effective employer-employee relations and align with other departments
  • Lead Administrative Functions
    • Stay informed about regulatory and pricing changes affecting financial and operational performance
    • Investigate and resolve significant matters related to essential job functions
    • Complete required paperwork accurately and promptly
    • Uphold security and confidentiality regulations for medical records
  • Be Responsible
    • Ensure compliance with regulations, including HIPAA and labor regulations
    • Manage responsibilities within the scope of the position and direction
    • Demonstrate professionalism, accuracy, and commitment to Datavant

What you will bring to the table: 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a managerial role
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Previous medical record experience required
  • Bachelor's degree from an AHIMA-certified HIM Program or Nursing Program
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) with extensive coding background
  • Candidates with prior knowledge of AI tools for medical coding are preferred
