Job Description
Grounds Worker (Part-Time 28 hrs/wk)
The PT Grounds Worker will assist supervisor in assignment completion by performing tasks ranging from gardening maintenance, landscape specialties and site development in an efficient, accurate and timely manner. He/she will perform within acceptable safety procedures and guidelines and ensure the equipment is kept in a safe working condition. He/she will participate in snow removal.
What you’ll do in this position:
- Maintain an understanding of quality landscape maintenance and Construction elements
- Operate all equipment in a safe, effective manner to minimize the risk of injury and property damage
- Train new employees in equipment and tasks
- Identify and prioritize new projects
- Follow all safety guidelines to minimize the risk of injury and property damage
- Interact with staff and customers in a polite, professional manner
- Work collaboratively with campus partners
- Operate equipment to accomplish project completion
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- 1+ years’ landscaping maintenance experience
- Ability to pass physical exam
- Adherence to safety guidelines and University’s Honor Code
Preferred
- 3+ years of experience in landscape maintenance, current driver's license
- Strong supervising, mentoring, and training skills
- Ability to make decisions regarding projects and tasks
- Ability to work courteously with those at the MTC, Temple, and BYU
- Ability to respect and adhere to safety guidelines
- Effective record keeping abilities
- Ability to pass post-offer physical exam
Physical Effort - Moderate – Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions.
- Lifting, bending, kneeling, raking, shoveling, levelling
- Snow removal duties
- Forklift, skid steer, track hoe, loader
Environment - Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters
Hazards - Frequent existing or potential hazards

Pay Grade: 46
Typical Starting Pay: $16.50 to $21.00 an hour
