Under the direction of the supervising Anesthesiologist, the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant responsible for practicing in the expanded role to coordinate all aspects of pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation of all patients scheduled to undergo procedures requiring anesthesia services. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is responsible for coordinating postoperative anesthesia rounds and acute pain management rounds on a daily basis.
- Conducts preoperative anesthetic evaluation, educates patients and family members about appropriate Anesthetic choices for planned procedures and obtains informed consent for anesthesia services.
- Orders lab work, EKG, x-ray studies and medical or subspecialty consultations as appropriate to optimize Patient pre-operative preparation.
- Coordinates ongoing review of all appropriate screening lab work, EKG’s, x-ray studies and subspecialty Consultations for patients undergoing procedures requiring anesthesia.
- Performs final check of all patient charts including lab work, EKG’s, x-rays, consultation reports the day before planned surgery.
- Collaborates with attending anesthesiologists about any preadmission testing assessments or outstanding patient care issues on a daily basis.
- Collaborates with other healthcare professional to coordinate optimal preoperative preparation of patients undergoing procedures requiring anesthesia services.
- Conducts daily postoperative anesthesia checks for inpatients and outpatients as necessary and report any significant findings to attending Anesthesiologist on call.
- Conducts daily acute pain management rounds on all patients on acute pain service and report any significant findings to attending Anesthesiologist on call.
- Complies with all Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital - Plymouth wide policies and Department of Anesthesia Policies where applicable.
- Meets mandatory CME requirements and maintains certification.
- Abides by and upholds Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Plymouth Standards.
- Maintains a professional image in representing Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Plymouth standards.
- Communicates courteously and professionally with all patients, physicians, hospital employees and other departments at all times.

Education/Experience Required:
- Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant in the state of MA
- Graduated NCN or PA accredited Master’s Degree program
Registration/Certification:
- Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant in the state of MA
- Graduated NCN or PA accredited Master’s Degree program
- Certified ACNP, CANP, or PA-C
- Certified in ACLS
