About the role
In order to qualify for a Technical Information Specialist, GS-1412 position, you must have: A full 4-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with major study in the subject-matter field of the position to be filled; OR Four (4) years of experience that provided a knowledge of the basic principles, theories, practices, techniques, and terminology of a discipline or subject-matter field; an understanding of the standard methods, procedures, and techniques of research and analysis in the subject-matter field; and where appropriate, ability to read and comprehend nontechnical material in one or more foreign languages. Such experience is equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4-year college curriculum; OR A combination of education and experience as described above. In addition, in order to qualify for a Technical Information Specialist, GS-1412 position at the GS-15 level, you must have: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: (1) providing leadership and expertise for the overall direction and delivery of the Literature resources and first level supervisory technical and administrative supervision over professional staff and oversight to contract staff; (2) managerial activities such as restructuring, reorienting, recasting immediate and long range goals, objectives, plans and schedules to meet substantial changes in legislation, program authority, funding and scientific research endeavors; (3) developing and implementing information system strategies that ensure the delivery of high quality and compelling content; (4) leading new projects to update the design, content, and functionality, and with evaluating and using the newest information delivery strategies and technologies; (5) providing consultation, guidance, and advice on a large range of functions and services to convey complex research information; (6) planning, recommending, and implementing new methods and approaches for effectively storing, archiving and disseminating information; and (7) analyzing and evaluating the accuracy, effectiveness, and usability of the NLM web sites and developing methods to enhance and improve the sites.
