The University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) seeks Adjunct Faculty members who are subject matter experts in English to serve as Instructors of Record and/or develop courses for undergraduate and graduate programs. . Instruction may be delivered online, on campus, or in other approved instructional modalities, including traditional 15-week semester courses and 8-week Competency-Based Education (CBE) formats. Teaching assignments and course development opportunities are based on departmental needs, faculty expertise, and course delivery schedules.
Traditional semester courses are typically offered during the Fall and Spring semesters, with additional opportunities during Summer sessions. Competency-Based Education (CBE) courses are offered in multiple eight-week sessions throughout the year. Scheduling is flexible and aligned with instructional and program needs.
Courses may be delivered in synchronous or asynchronous formats, as appropriate for the instructional model, and meaningful interaction with students is expected.
Compensation for instruction and course development assignments is determined in accordance with the University of Maine System Part-Time Academics Collective Bargaining Agreement (PATFA). Rates vary based on assignment, academic rank, qualifications, experience, and University service.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- For undergraduate degree programs: At minimum, a master's degree from an accredited institution and/or significant work experience in a related field.
- For graduate degree programs: A doctorate, terminal degree, or other advanced degree in the field of study and/or significant work experience in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching at the college-level
- Online teaching experience
- Teaching in a competency-based education model
Technology Requirements: Adjunct Faculty teaching online courses are required to have the appropriate technology to effectively teach in an online environment. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Computer (desktop or laptop) with sufficient processing speed and capabilities
- Reliable high-speed internet connection
- Webcam
- Microphone
