Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CNC Machine Shop Manager to lead our precision machining operations at our facility in El Cajon, CA. The CNC Machine Shop Manager will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, capacity planning, production scheduling, CNC programming, product quality, and ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to plan work effectively, prioritize tasks, and coordinate resources to ensure timely completion of projects while maintaining high-quality standards.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Capacity Planning & Scheduling:
    • Develop and maintain production schedules based on customer orders, inventory levels, and machine availability.
    • Optimize resource allocation to meet production targets while maximizing machine utilization and minimizing downtime.
    • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and purchasing teams to forecast capacity requirements and align production schedules accordingly.
    • Establish structured workflows to ensure seamless handoff between production stages and maintain production continuity.
  • CNC Program Optimization:
    • Review and optimize CNC programs to improve cycle times, reduce tool wear, and enhance overall efficiency.
    • Collaborate with engineering and programming teams to implement best practices for tool paths, cutting parameters, and fixture design.
    • Implement standardization practices for CNC programs across machines and product lines.
  • Quality Assurance (AQL):
    • Implement and maintain Acceptable Quality Limit (AQL) standards to ensure consistent product quality.
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify compliance with quality standards.
    • Collaborate with quality control teams to identify root causes of defects and drive corrective actions.
  • Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement:
    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve workflow efficiency.
    • Implement external setups and quick changeover methodologies (SMED) to minimize machine downtime.
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement among team members.
    • Track and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to maximize machine performance.
    • Establish and maintain metrics for quality, machine uptime, and efficiency to drive operational performance.
  • Preventative & Predictive Maintenance:
    • Develop and oversee a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all CNC equipment.
    • Implement AI-driven predictive maintenance systems to monitor machine performance and detect potential issues before they cause downtime.
    • Collaborate with maintenance teams to schedule and perform routine maintenance activities.
  • Tooling & Inventory Management:
    • Identify, order, and maintain inventory of tooling and consumables required for production.
    • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of tooling and materials.
    • Implement cost-effective tooling solutions to enhance production efficiency.
  • Team Leadership & Training:
    • Supervise, train, and mentor machine shop personnel, including CNC operators, programmers, and maintenance technicians.
    • Supervise shop foreman and shop leads
