About the role

We are looking for a talented School to Work – Test Engineer student to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Troy, MI.

Overview: 

As a Test Engineering Team member, the School-to-Work will be responsible for assisting in the setup, running, and inspection of vehicle and mechanical lab based tests.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Test Technicians and Engineers with the setup and running of vehicle and mechanical lab based tests. 
  • Documentation of test setup and results.
  • Instrumentation and test part logistics.  
  • Asset management and quality compliance (calibrations and documentation).
  • Test data analysis for defined processes. 
  • Lab area cleanliness and safety. 

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Current Enrollment: You must be a current student in high school or in a college/university pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Basic Engineering skills such as Excel Spreadsheets, programming, and mathematics.
  • Knowledge of vehicles and vehicle subsystems .
  • Must have basic mechanical skills and ability to use the proper tools to assemble test parts according to engineering drawings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently Enrolled in a college/university pursuing Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Willingness to work in a hands-on laboratory environment.
  • SAE vehicle competition experience (Formula SAE, Baja SAE, etc.) a plus.
  • Automotive knowledge a plus.
