The Utility-scale Development team at RWE Clean Energy is responsible for initiating, developing, and acquiring utility-scale Solar, Wind and Energy Storage projects in the US and Canada. The VP, Utility-Scale Development for the West Region will be responsible for the development activities in the WECC Energy Markets (across CAISO, PNW, DSW, Rockies) and play a key role in delivering renewable energy projects in alignment with RWE's strategy in North America.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the SVP, Head of Utility-scale Development, be part of the management team of the Onshore Renewables Development together with the other Regional VPs
- Manage the regional pipeline of 10+ GW of utility-scale Solar, Wind and Energy Storage projects, from greenfielding to start of construction. Including the liabilities and Budget
- Set the development and execution strategy in the assigned geographies. Understand the key drivers for project’s financial attractiveness and identify best locations in collaboration with RWE’s strategy, commercial and technical teams
- Lead the regional personnel of 20+ employees and a strong management team of Directors, who are responsible for the sub-regional development teams
- Drive project competitiveness optimization, via technical, commercial and financial levers to achieve annual targets and goals
- Steer M&A prioritization and due diligence of project acquisitions, in collaboration with RWE’s M&A team
- Facilitate coordination with the support and technical teams (finance, engineering, commercial, procurement, construction,…) at executive level
- Sponsor and prepare recommendations for major internal approvals with the SVP and C-level
- Manage the regional budget, objectives, schedules, and deliverables for the entire region
- Actively participate in the strategy for the region and internal improvement initiatives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in STEM, business/economics, or relevant fields required
- An advanced degree is a plus
- 10+ years of work experience applicable to renewable energy infrastructure, including experience in developing energy infrastructure projects in the US.
- Proven track record of developing large energy projects across the development lifecycle
- Proven track record of managing multi-GW portfolios of energy projects across the development lifecycle
- Strong knowledge in key areas, including energy markets, prospecting, real estate development, interconnection, permitting, environmental, project engineering, construction management.
- Exceptional project management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage customer relationships
- Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
- Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
- Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team
- Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
- Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds
Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in California is $195,000- $293,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations.
