Let’s do this! Let’s change the world. Data is the new gold. Digitalization is generating large quantities of data and when used with intelligent automation, it will transform what we do work in Decision and Data Science for the Research and Development Organization.  

DDS is seeking a Sr. Manager, Data & Decision Science who will actively lead and collaborate with various business leaders and design and implement sophisticated analytical models. 

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Design and develop analyses (e.g., descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive) to enable concrete insights and to inform timely decision-making.  

• Strategize with partners across the organization to build scalable and production-grade AI/ML products and bring consistent approach to solving complex business problems 

• Identify key business questions that need to be addressed to meet changing business needs; Prioritize resources to impact critical business issues and decisions 

• Design and build frameworks to tune the model parameters to achieve desired program outcomes and support monitor and address model performance over time 

• Lead, contribute, and provide thought leadership on end-to-end development, deployment, and sustainment of digital solutions. 

• Work with data engineers and IS/IT teams to identify the right data granularity required for different modeling /measurement approaches, automate model retraining and deployment 

• Partner with IS and Data Engineers to ensure that the models feeding the dashboards are robust, functional, and relevant to business needs 

• Ensure delivery of efficient, agile, integrated business and system processes while incorporating agile project management approaches 

• Develop and deliver clear and precise communications related to digital technologies and solutions that are tailored to the needs of technical and business stakeholders. 

• Collaborate with peers in other functions across the company on multi-functional digital transformation initiatives to drive efficiencies 

• Stay on top of the latest trends in the field through continuous learning and an active peer internal/external network to address emerging business and regulatory imperatives. 

• Interact cross-functionally with a wide variety of people and teams. Work closely with domain experts to deliver value by developing novel, practical, scientific, data-driven solutions to meet business needs 

• Develop productive relationships with senior functional leaders to understand operational challenges and opportunities, and present innovative, plausible, and sustainable digital solutions 

• Motivate, coach, and serve as a role model for staff and coordinate deployment of team resources to help advance the business and their professional aspirations and growth. 

• Cultivate a collaborative environment where the team has a solid sense of belonging, are engaged and invested in their own and organizational success, maintain a high degree of initiative, critical thinking, and intellectual curiosity, and have a big picture orientation to build comprehensive and enduring solutions. 

• Ensure that both structured and ad-hoc projects follow all Amgen SOPs and meet service-level expectations for quality, timeliness, and budget 

• Mentor high-performing data scientists and decision scientists within the team

Basic Qualifications: 

• Doctorate degree and 2+ years of experience in statistics, data science, operations research, mathematics, econometrics, business administration, a quantitative field or equivalent area of focus experience 

Or 

• Master’s degree and 6+ years of experience in statistics, data science, operations research, mathematics, econometrics, business administration, a quantitative field or equivalent area of focus experience
