JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Patient Accounts Specialist provides administrative and financial support to the Faculty Dental Practice. This position is responsible for the daily workflow of the practice such as making all forms of patient scheduling, answering the telephone, inputting patient information, making financial arrangements, collecting patient co-pays, ordering administrative supplies, and maintaining the director’s schedule.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains patient scheduler system by scheduling and rescheduling, confirming, and canceling patient appointments.
2. Communicates with patients over the phone to schedule problem-focus examination appointments.
3. Receives patient information over the phone to obtain insurance eligibility and copayment information.
4. Posts insurance payments to patient’s account as well as cash, checks, credit card, Enhance, and CareCredit payments.
5. Completes bank deposits for all monies taken and submits deposits to the Business Office daily.
6. Answers patient questions relating to balances, credit, and procedure charges.
7. Works with patients and the Business Office to establish payment plans that are in accordance with the clinic and college’s policies and procedures.
8. Performs “soft” collection efforts for patients with balances and past due accounts; notifies patients via phone or email.
9. Communicates and interacts with the Clinic Director on scheduled appointments and events.
10. Orders front office and dental supplies.
11. Performs duties of a clinical dental assistant (if certified as Clinical Dental Assistant.)
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in dental assisting or front office experience. (Three years of front office experience preferred.) (CDA, RDA, dental billing coding certification preferred.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of procedure dental codes and dental insurance billing.
• Ability to prioritize tasks based on any emergency that may present.
• Ability to be organized, detailed-oriented, and work as a team member striving for quality oral health care.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Basic understanding of Current Dental Terminology (CDT).
• Good math and data entry skills.
• Professional and effective telephone and patient relation skills.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends.
