Overview

The Platform Services team in the Platform Engineering organization is involved in the complete lifecycle of the cross cutting services that all of our product teams leverage, from design, commit, test, deployment, and monitoring. This team enables the services that power the core of the CommerceHub network and are crucial to the business's success. Working with others in the organization, they help develop and influence operational tooling, best practices, and standards that empower the engineering organization and help ensure CommerceHub's effective and efficient operations. Platform services aim to enable our internal and external users to succeed by providing highly available, fault-tolerant systems and self-service tooling.

We expect you to constantly improve, architect, and build services and tooling to increase the usability of our SaaS platform. Your responsibilities will include operating, rearchitecting, optimizing and building reliable services and tooling and collaborating with engineering teams to deliver highly scalable and reliable offerings. Our company is looking for a Platform Services Manager to provide high-quality full-stack management solutions to companies across the globe. The Software Engineering Manager, Platform Services is responsible for:

• Leading teams of highly-creative software professionals in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Understanding and driving Lean, Systems Thinking software engineering principals
• Recruiting and hiring for team growth
• Personal mentoring of team members, and establishing and maintaining a practice within the team of all senior individuals mentoring those junior to them
• Establishing best practices for software engineering to ensure high-quality services that can be easily run in production
• Collaborating with architects and other technology leaders to help drive the direction of technology within the team and the company
• Establishing a culture of continual learning and quality across the organization
• Monitoring high-level projects to ensure in-flight projects are on track
• Dropping down to a low level, when needed, to help direct project teams and keep projects on course

 

Qualifications 

Minimum Qualifications

• BA degree in related field or 5+ years in a development role, with 3 years as a Team Lead or Supervisor
• Development background should have strong roots in a Java environment, or similar environment
• Able to handle customer escalations and incidents and develop best solutions
• Experience with AWS foundations, including computer, storage, and security
• Experience managing and operating production containerized applications/systems using Kubernetes.
• Ability to work effectively with distributed teams and people from diverse backgrounds
• Understand how large systems work and can be operated on a large scale, edge cases, failure modes, and behaviors.
• Identifying and diagnosing complex distributed system problems, whether they involve systems, networks, or code
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
• Passion, resourcefulness, and dedication are a must to succeed

Preferred Qualifications 

• Understanding of internet application architecture, including web services, database technologies, and SOA/Micro Services architecture
• Passion for creating and maintaining excellent services, with a strong understanding of what it takes to run a mission critical, 24x7 service with high availability
• Experience with Continuous Delivery techniques and tools a plus
• Significant hands-on experience in project management using Agile/Lean development methodologies
• Security standards and operating procedures experience
• Expertise in creating multi-region cloud systems with a solid disaster recovery plan
