Description
The Developmental Studies Hybridoma Bank (DSHB) at the University of Iowa – a world renowned nonprofit resource supporting the global biomedical research community – is seeking a Software Application Developer to lead the design and development of custom scientific, e-commerce, and database infrastructure. This position plays a key role in improving worldwide access to validated antibodies, automating internal workflows, and ensuring the long-term scalability and innovation of DSHB’s technology ecosystem. This is a 12-month specified-term position that is grant-funded, with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze functional and technical requirements for improving DSHB’s public-facing website and internal content systems, including online digital forms and portals (ordering and depositing).
- Collaborate across teams to build and maintain a searchable antibody validation knowledgebase and integrate with other open-access digital tools.
- Consult with DSHB staff and users to define identify new computational based solutions to improve web site functionality.
- Structure and curate knowledge assets (protocols, SOPs, customer support interactions) to facilitate AI tool development.
- Liaise with University of Iowa Information Technology staff to ensure University-wide compliance with current software and IT policies.

Qualifications
Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
Experience (typically 3 years or more) in software development.
Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to communicate effectively with technical/non-technical staff.
Experience with modern program development languages and tools, and Object-Oriented programming frameworks, including prior experience with HTML, JavaScript, and Python.
Desired Qualifications:
Masters degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
Prior experience with NetSuite or other ERP systems. Prior programming in SuiteScript is desirable.
Previous experience in a scientific research environment and development of web applications in support of scientific databases and platforms.
Previous experience in working on open science, transparency in data sharing, and accessibility in research tools.
Familiarity with academic IT compliance and implementation policies and procedures.
Previous experience in a Higher Education setting
