Qualifications (education, experience, training required to perform position:

Minimum Requirements:

  • H.S diploma with 0-3 years of experience
  • Preferred: 
    • Experience in a clinical lab setting
    • Administrative experience: maintain logs/records, use of computerized databases, verbal and written communications.           

This is a Frist Shift Position: Monday- Friday 10:00am to 6:30pm

Follows the laboratory’s procedure for specimen handling and processing, communication and test result review.

  • Entering and/or Verifying test results in preparation for director review.
  • Assisting lab staff with organizing and filing quality control documentation.
  • Monitoring lists of samples pending testing and notifying appropriate testing staff.
  • Corresponding with other laboratory support groups to resolve client inquiries and concerns.
  • Reviewing test orders prior to specimen processing to ensure sample type is appropriate and all necessary information is included.  This includes identifying mis-orders and contacting clients to obtain information necessary to complete testing performed at CMBP.
  • Calling clients to notify them of delayed or abnormal test results.
  • Reviews or records initials on all paperwork to indicate work performed by individual.
  • Notifies Technologists, Team Leads or Supervisor of any identification discrepancies and documents action taken.
  • Navigates all required LIMS systems in order to perform assigned duties.
  • Reviews/Releases specimens completely, accurately and within established time frames.
  • Understands and follows established procedures.
  • Understands that all patient information is confidential.

Adheres to the laboratory’s safety policies.

  • Wears proper PPE when handling and processing specimens.
  • Discards biohazard waste properly.
  • Notifies Technologists, Team Lead or Supervisor immediately of any lab accident or exposure incident.

Participates in proficiency testing as required.

  • Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested/reviewed in the same manner as patient samples.
  • Verifies with Technologists, Team Leads, or Supervisor handling and processing procedures prior to reviewing/releasing proficiency samples.

Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies; documents all quality control activities.

  • Understands daily QC according to the procedure.
  • Notifies Technologists, Team Leads, or Supervisor of any failure or adverse trend in QC.
  • Reviews documentation for and reports any irregularities in Assay QC to Technologists, Team Leads, or Supervisor.

Recognizes problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and immediately notifies Senior Technologist, Team Lead, or Supervisor.

Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.

  • Records problems in appropriate log in a timely manner.
  • Records all follow up to a problem.
  • Provides all relevant documentation to Supervisor.

Maintains adequate stock of working supplies, notifies Team Lead or Supervisor of shortage.

Participates in required Continue education activities.

Ensures the following.

  • Questions from other personnel are answered clearly and consistently.
  • Attends all required meetings and represents laboratory in a professional manner.
  • High level of respect for all lab personnel, supervisor and directors.
  • Willingness to perform duties until they are complete.
  • Adherence to lab policies and protocols.
