Job Description
Coach senior leaders in Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISN) and Veterans Affairs Medical Centers (VAMC) on the execution of safety science by creating the linkage between the High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles and leadership practices. Collaborates with senior leaders to facilitate the incorporation of a Just Culture utilizing available tools and resources (All Employee Survey, Safety Culture Surveys, Customer Service Surveys) and also designing new tools, as needed, including implementation plans. Trains leaders on leadership behaviors and actions necessary to guide a cultural transformation to a culture of safety and reliability and to establish safety as a core value.
Experienced in health and wellness promotion, medical education and/or administration and health optimization. Position requires specialized experience involving clinic, industrial or educational institution research studies to resolve fundamental issues. Experience in neurological sciences, rehabilitative medicine, neurology, physical medicine, rehabilitation, counseling, primary care, preventative medicine, public health, or other medical field. Provides technical direction for problem definition, approach methodology, analysis of findings, recommendations, and implementation for complex or extremely complex projects and assignments. Operates with latitude for unreviewed action of decision.
Key responsibilities
Provides direct support to clients both virtually and in-person to:
- Apply the art and science of High Reliability Organizations (HRO)
- Routinely collect, document, and analyze information, activities and engagements related to client’s pursuit of Zero Harm (daily, weekly or as requested)
- Collaborate to establish Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-based (SMART) goals for the HRO Leader Coach / client coaching relationship
- Connect clients with existing VHA HRO resources and HRO lanes of effort
- Apply Prosci® Change Management principles and provide practical tips for managing change
- Plan and implement/mature Four Foundational HRO Practices (Leader Rounding, Safety Huddles, Patient Safety Forums, and Visual Management Systems
Required Qualifications
- Candidates must have a master’s or doctoral degree in a medical field (e.g., nursing, medicine, allied health) or healthcare administration (e.g., MHA, MBA).
- 12+ years of experience in healthcare leadership roles, with a strong preference for candidates with at least five years of prior executive level experience (e.g., CEO, COO, CMO, CNO) at the hospital or hospital system level
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams)
- Must have excellent communication, problem solving, and customer service skills. Must be able to work autonomously and collaboratively with small teams.

Preferred Qualifications
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Prosci® Change Management certification
- Lean and/or Six Sigma certification
- Clinical licensure (RN, MD, LCSW, etc.)
- Coaching certification
- Prior executive coaching or consulting experience

$92.71 - $148.35The pay range for this job is determined by various factors, including but not necessarily limited to location, responsibilities of the job, and alignment with market data. When determining a salary for this role, the following factors may be taken into consideration
