Who will you be working with?

You'll be joining our innovative Wabtec Bus Solutions division, a team dedicated to developing leading systems for the Transit Bus & Rail industries including eBus charging systems, innovative passenger door systems, access ramps, and wheelchair lifts. Our group combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of product requirements to deliver industry-leading solutions and lasting value to our customers and the communities they serve.

How will you make a difference?

As a key member of the Wabtec Bus Solutions division, you will have technical ownership for the design and development of electro-mechanical products including door systems, ramps, lifts, charging/power transfer systems, and relay/contactor product lines.  You'll design, analyze, and troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems, working as an integral part of Bus Solutions’ Engineering team. Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, you'll contribute significantly to the team's success in developing innovative mechanical solutions for the transportation industry.

What do we want to know about you?

We would like to know if you meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering roles, focusing on systems used in transportation applications
  • Mechanical Design - ability to create production drawings from pre-existing models using model dimensions and applying tolerance stack up analysis; create new models based on pre-existing conditions
  • Mechanical Analysis - engineering statics, engineering dynamics and basic beam equations
  • Fluid Power – pressure/area/force equations and relationships
  • Mechanical elements and processes - understand elements and processes such as fastener types, bolted joint theory, couplings, welding, heat treating, and plating
  • Electrical – basic DC equations including resistance, current, voltage, and power; basic AC equations including inductance, capacitance, frequency and impedance
  • Practical knowledge of basic trigonometry, basic algebra and quadratic equations, polynomials
  • Ability to utilize SolidWorks – basic modeling and assembly, technical drawing standards and drafting practices, drafts, family tables, sections, detail views, exploded assemblies, sections, detail views, exploded assemblies, datum, and motion modeling
  • Understand basic manufacturing processes such as sheet metal, extrusions (aluminum and polymer), welding and machining
  • Ability to troubleshoot problematic or defective mechanical systems  
  • Have basic proficiency in Microsoft Project and ability to manage single projects

What will your typical day look like?

  • Design and modify designs of electro-mechanical and pneumatic systems
  • Analyze product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs, which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods
  • Determine feasibility of designing new equipment considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors
  • Provide technical information, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planning
  • Confer with research and other engineering personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develop designs
  • Prepare product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics
  • Direct and coordinate manufacturing or building of prototype product or system
  • Compile and analyze operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product
  • Plan and develop experimental test programs
  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications
  • Evaluate engineering test results for possible application to developments of systems or other uses
  • Create and make modifications to bill of materials
  • Work with Wabtec Sales and Field Service teams to investigate and resolve customer issues
