Purpose

The Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering is looking for a student technician to join the ME Information Technology team to assist with IT requests within the department. In this role, you will gain valuable, in-demand technology skills to apply to future employment. This is a hands-on role ideal for students eager to build real-world IT skills in a collaborative environment supporting faculty and staff in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with IT ticket triage and initial response.

  • Maintain computer fleet including imaging and deploying new computers, hardware upgrades and repairs, as well as inventory cleanup and surplus old equipment

  • General troubleshooting of IT issues and documentation.

  • Work with senior IT staff on special projects.

  • Other IT duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technology oriented with a base knowledge of Windows and MacOS

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts

  • Basic understanding of computer hardware

  • Basic understanding of common software such as Microsoft Office

  • Troubleshooting experience

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Attention to details

  • Punctual, dependable and ability to work well with others

Hourly Rate

$15.00

Working Conditions

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • Prolonged screen time

  • Use of manual dexterity

  • Lifting, moving, installing and transporting equipment (up to ~50 lbs.)

  • Climbing stairs

  • In-person work in ETC and adjacent campus campus buildings.

Available Work Shift (up to 20 hours per week)

Monday - Friday, 7:30am – 5pm
