Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Senior Guidance, Navigation, & Control (GNC) Software Engineer to join the Maritime & Intelligence Systems team located in Herndon, Virginia.  This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

The Maritime & Intelligence Systems division is seeking a talented, self-motivated Senior GNC Software Engineer to participate in the development of future mission systems technologies in the areas of avionics, autonomy, human-systems interfaces and sensor processing. Current areas of focus are advanced mission systems processing, unmanned autonomous vehicle operation, sensor and image processing, small form factor computing and crew station/operator environments. Must be able to take vague requirements and quickly translate them into embedded system solutions by team collaborations with customers. The project will focus on a mixture of new development integrated with legacy capability to provide significant new capability(s) in a short time frame.

Boeing Maritime Undersea includes the Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (UUV) portfolio. Boeing’s family of extra-large unmanned undersea vehicles (XLUUVs) offers industry-leading autonomy, range, reliability, endurance and payload capabilities to support missions spanning the U.S. Navy, other U.S. government agencies and the oil and gas markets. In 2019, Boeing was awarded contract modifications by the U.S. Navy to build five Advanced Undersea Prototypes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform software engineering across the entire software development lifecycle: requirements analysis, software design, development, and test

  • Identify, Perform and Review design decisions, trade studies, architecture improvements

  • Model Guidance and Navigation algorithms and then implement in source code

  • Champion relentless product and process improvements within the organization

  • Coordinate with other integrated product teams (IPTs) to solve technical code and program issues and control configurations

  • Collaborate with multiple teams within a Scaled Agile™ software environment

  • Foster a culture of common workflow and capability development across programs and feature teams

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. (Herndon, Virginia)

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications: (Required Skills/ Experience)

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • Active Top Secret / SCI Security Clearance

  • 5+ years of experience in embedded real-time software development 

  • 5+ years of experience in Java and/or C++

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience)

  • TS/SCI with CI Poly

  • Experience in MATLAB for algorithm development and analysis

  • Experience in Python and development on Linux

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience).
