Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides and manages comprehensive medical care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatments in both inpatient and outpatient settings as an Internal Medicine Physician.
- Prescribes medications and treatment regimens for adult patients, based on medical evaluations and clinical judgment.
- Refers patients to appropriate specialists and coordinates additional patient care as needed.
- Directs and coordinates the activities of nursing and support staff involved in patient care.
- Participates in hospital on-call coverage.
- Provides clinical supervision and training to internal medicine residents and medical students as applicable.
- Adheres to departmental policies, medical staff bylaws, quality improvement goals, and infection control standards.
- Participates in health promotion, disease prevention, and education programs appropriate to adult medicine.
- Accepts and performs assignments willingly and attends all mandatory meetings and training.
- Engages in professional development opportunities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Maintains compliance with Corporate Compliance Policy, all applicable laws, and professional standards.
- Ensures a safe workplace through adherence to safety procedures and proper use of protective equipment.
- Protects patient and organizational confidentiality.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversees nursing and support staff as required.
- May hold a leadership role within the medical staff or department.

Education, Licenses, Certifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of an Internal Medicine residency program.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
- State of Iowa medical licensure and CSA certification.
- Federal DEA certification.
- Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
Position Requirements-Knowledge and Skills
- Proficient in the principles, practices, and procedures of internal medicine.
- Strong knowledge of adult disease management and preventive care.
- Ability to supervise and mentor clinical staff and learners.
- Skilled in using electronic health records and prescribing software.
- Excellent diagnostic, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Commitment to maintaining patient safety, quality care, and compliance with standards.
- Knowledge of relevant pharmaceuticals and appropriate prescribing practices.

Physical Demands
- Work involves exposure to unusual elements, such as unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and use hands to finger, handle or feel.
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds on occasion. The employee may frequently sit and reach, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
- Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
