JOB TITLE:   

Director/Associate or Full Professor - WWAMI Medical Education Program

JOB PURPOSE:   

The incumbent will serve as the Director of the Wyoming WWAMI medical education program in the University of Wyoming (UW) College of Health Sciences, holding a joint appointment with the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM).  Reporting primarily to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences at UW and secondarily to the Vice Dean for Academic, Rural, and Regional Affairs at UWSOM, the Director is responsible for oversight and management of academic/curricular activities, pipeline, personnel, facility, operations, accreditation, and fiscal matters of the Wyoming WWAMI program, an innovative medical education program in which five states share one medical school (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho).  Wyoming WWAMI students complete 18 months of preclinical training at the UW campus in Laramie before completing clinical training throughout the WWAMI region and ultimately graduating with an MD degree from the University of Washington. The target start date is July 2024, with a flexible start date for the right candidate. 

Wyoming WWAMI

Housed in the College of Health Sciences, the Wyoming WWAMI medical education program is a member of the five state WWAMI cooperative medical education program which focuses on training a primary care workforce for rural areas.  Students complete the first 18 months of medical education at the University of Wyoming before transitioning to the UWSOM for the remainder of their medical education.  Wyoming WWAMI partners with several academic units within the College of Health Sciences and across campus to achieve the instructional mission directed by the UWSOM.  Wyoming WWAMI is supported in its mission by state-of-the-art teaching facilities, invested and committed partners across Wyoming, and an exceptional team of staff, faculty instructors, clinical faculty, and preceptors.  Over the past 25 years, more than 300 Wyoming residents have earned medical degrees through WWAMI and the majority of graduates return to practice in Wyoming.

The College of Health Sciences

UW’s College of Health Sciences trains health and wellness professionals and researchers in a wide variety of disciplines, including medicine, nursing, pharmacy, speech-language pathology, social work, kinesiology, public health, health administration and disability studies. The college also oversees residency and fellowship programs in Casper and Cheyenne, as well as operating a speech/hearing clinic in Laramie and primary care clinics in Laramie, Casper and Cheyenne.  With more than 1,600 undergraduate, graduate and professional students, the college is dedicated to training the health and wellness workforce of Wyoming and conducting high-quality research and community engagement, with a particular focus on rural and frontier populations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Report to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences at UW and secondarily to the Vice Dean for Academic, Rural, and Regional Affairs at UWSOM.
  • Oversight and management of academic/curricular activities, pipeline, personnel, facility, operations, accreditation, and fiscal matters of the WY WWAMI program.
  • Teaching, engage in clinical practice/sustaining an active scholarly research program. and provide service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Travel is required to UWSOM and Wyoming instructional sites. 

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:  

  • Development and stewardship of new and existing stakeholder/constituent relationships. 
  • Fundraising for the WY WWAMI Program.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Doctoral degree (e.g.,MD/DO/PhD) in a related field.
  • Experience commensurate for appointment at the rank of associate/full professor in either a clinical or tenure-track line. 
  • Demonstrated administrative experience to include fiscal/budget management, personnel management, and/or program planning.
  • Experience and expertise to teach in one of the first or second-year WWAMI subject matter areas.
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
