Shift will vary and be part day-time hours and part night-time hours no later than 9pm. Occasional Saturdays.
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse Supervisor-Extended Hours provides professional nursing healthcare to the organization’s patients, supports smooth and efficient clinic workflows, coordinates the day-to-day patient care activities, oversees new and existing CMAs and nurses, telephone communication, provides compliance, education, and operational support in accordance in accordance with the Heartland Health Services’ (HHS) mission, strategic goals, federal and state laws and regulations, performance and outcome objectives, and accreditation standards.
Essential Functions
- Provides staff guidance, supports challenging situations and is responsible for smooth and efficient clinic workflow in collaboration with the Site Manager/Assistant Manager at all clinic locations.
- Assists with coordination of administrative duties as needed, including schedule, daily assignments, and patient care.
- Participates in the interviewing, training, and orienting of new employees.
- Oversees and precepts new and existing CMAs and nurses in collaboration with the Clinical Educator and Site Manager.
- Maintains training and orientation materials.
- Provides feedback for performance evaluations.
- Serves as a resource for other staff members.
- Delegates, provides feedback, and helps resolve operational issues in accordance with the Site Manager.
- Monitors the patient workflow to keep the clinic functioning efficiently.
- Assists with clinical projects including process improvement projects.
- Works collaboratively with others to meet the shifting demands of the clinic.
- Receives calls for absences and schedule changes from clinical staff to utilize in scheduling.
- Supports and is involved in continuous quality improvement efforts designed to increase patient outcomes and patient satisfaction.
- Provides appropriate education to patients and family caregivers to ensure appropriate use of healthcare resources and documents.
- Coordinates services with other patient care locations as required: maintains communication with allied services.
- Assists clinician with technical procedures by preparing and informing the patient.
- Guide and assist with procedure clinics and sports medicine.
- Performs various patient care procedures and administration of medications as directed by clinicians, independently.
- Documents and maintain records and charts, and reports patient’s condition, medications given, and treatments administered.
- Ensures informed consent has been obtained.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
- Demonstrates compliance with all clinic policies and procedures along with the requirements from the various regulatory agencies.
- Receives telephone calls from patients and/or family members and provides advice to callers within the scope of license and according to established protocols.
- Schedules appointments/diagnostic testing with clinicians and specialty groups when appropriate.
- Interviews patients to gather information related to illness and determine priority of patients’ needs, records and reports symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in patients’ conditions.
- Refills patients’ medications per protocols. May transcribe physician orders for new prescription medication or changes to standing orders.
- Assists resident physicians in becoming familiar with medical office procedures and surroundings including scheduling patients, filling out various forms, office laboratory procedures, supplies, mediation cabinets, etc.
- Travels to various clinic locations as needed.
- Supports clinic compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and HHS rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures governing the clinical provision of medical services as well as those relating to, but not limited to, workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality.
- Maintains and assures confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HHS’s policies.
- Reports building/equipment problems through the appropriate channels.
- Attend all staff meetings, department meetings, and any other meetings as required.
