Policy Research Associate

Johns Hopkins University

About the role

Description

The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) seeks a Policy Research Associate to join Neighborhood Nursing in addressing two critical challenges in the U.S. healthcare system: the overemphasis on technical expertise over community knowledge and the reactive nature of care, which prioritizes treating illnesses over preventing them. These factors contribute to poor health outcomes and inequities, particularly in marginalized communities. Neighborhood Nursing offers a transformative, place-based approach by embedding interdisciplinary teams of nurses and community health workers into communities to provide promotive, preventive, and restorative services. This universal model fosters trust, shifts power dynamics, and empowers individuals and communities to achieve better health.

The Policy Research Associate will work with the Co-PIs Andre Nogueira, Sarah Szanton, and Natalia Barolin to map gaps and opportunities in Maryland’s policy systems to embed Neighborhood Nursing, compare these findings to gaps and opportunities in other states involved in the AHEAD program, conduct a premortem symposium with relevant stakeholders, and co-design policy pathways for broader adoption and implementation of Neighborhood Nursing.

The Policy Research Associate will work in an interdisciplinary team to employ behavioral and systems design methods to navigate complex policy landscapes and generate policy reports, research publications, scientific and grant writing, and community-focused dissemination strategies. This work will help refine the Neighborhood Nursing model for scalability, shape policy pathways, and advance Johns Hopkins’s leadership in health equity.
