Job Description:
Microchip’s Frequency and Time Systems (FTS) business unit is a world leader in precise time solutions and sets the world's standard for time. FTS generates, distributes, and applies precise time for the communications, aerospace/defense, IT infrastructure, and metrology industries. Our Government Systems group in Boulder, CO, is seeking an Engineering Intern for the summer of 2026 to contribute to Research and Development (R&D) programs in the field of precise time, frequency, and synchronization systems. This position is a good fit for someone who enjoys technical achievement, cooperative research, never-ending chances to learn, and a friendly team environment. You will lead and implement an engineering design project, receiving direct guidance and mentoring from a seasoned engineer. The assigned project will be tailored to the candidate’s experience, interests, and field of study. This opportunity requires the candidate to be a self-motivated person who is proactive and goal oriented. Requirements/Qualifications:
Job Functions
- Support the development of new product specifications and the selection, analysis, and evaluation of new parts
- Engineer embedded systems and algorithms for precise time, frequency, position, and radiofrequency communications applications
- Develop automation scripts and processes to improve engineering efficiency
- Collaborate with Systems, Hardware, Software, FPGA, and Mechanical Engineers to develop solutions that meet or exceed customers’ requirements
- Define script and code requirements with the Software Team and develop, implement, and test Python scripts and C++ code
- Create, analyze, and support electronic circuit designs including PCB’s and PCBA’s
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate or graduate student pursuing your Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Math, or similar field of study from an accredited university
- Proficiency in designing, developing and debugging embedded hardware and software systems
- Familiarity with electronic components, FPGA’s, microprocessors, solid state memory, and logic devices
- Knowledge of common interfaces and protocols (e.g. I2C, SPI, UART, USB)
- Experience using digital test equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and multi-meters)
- Ability to work 40 hours a week during the summer at our office in Boulder, CO
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- US Citizenship - ITAR Site
