Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Austin, TX three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
General Motors is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Senior Manager of Software Engineering, Platform/OS. This role will play a critical role in ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and durability, with a specific focus on the operating system for our in-vehicle infotainment systems.
What You'll Do
- Build and Lead a team that will contribute to our next generation vehicle operating while supporting and optimizing our existing platforms.
- Lead an engineering team building software with quality and predictability.
- Collaborate closely with hardware engineers and partner teams.
- Develop and enhance processes for building quality software.
- Collaborate across the organization to identify dependencies and needs.
- Build an effective engineering team, continually growing the skills of team members and recruiting talent to ensure we have domain specific knowledge.
- Define Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and drive engineering teams to improve these continuously.
- Leads, guides and directs a large group of technical employees responsible for engineering deliverables in support of the organization's business objectives.
- Leads engineering execution of team as related to the Vehicle Development Process deliverables. Provides technical leadership to work team.
- Interacts and collaborates with many teams cross-functionally.
- Leads team on new methods or initiatives without defined procedures. Leads team to meet targets.
- Conducts regularly scheduled Group Meetings, communicates GM Policies & Procedures, Leadership and Safety Messages.
- Creates and communicates vision & strategies specific to functional responsibilities. May include preparing and giving presentations.
- Reviews deliverables and provides candid & constructive feedback. Conducts performance interventions when necessary. Provides timely and consistent feedback to direct employee's as appropriate.
- Participates in compensation planning and administers compensation treatment.
- Observes and steps up to remove roadblocks and resolve potential issues.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description
Your Skills and Responsibilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- 12 years of experience in software development
- 8 years of team leadership
- Deep understanding of kernel, BSPs and Drivers and associated middleware including Linux, QNX and android
- Equally experienced managing internal stakeholders and external vendors.
- Proven ability to take High level guidance and produce and execute actionable plans.
- Demonstrated Cross functional leadership and ability to manage global remove and diverse teams.
- Demonstrated ability to build teams from ground up including hands on hiring.
- Experience shipping high quality products in a consumer context.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
