Job Description

Aviation Week Network (AWN) is looking for an experienced defense analyst to join its expanding defense data team. As part of the defense data team, you will contribute to Aviation Week’s world class coverage of the aerospace and defense market through support of the network’s databases, analytical products, conferences, and consultancy-based projects.

The senior analyst role is focused upon supporting two key product sets: The Military Fleet Discovery and Military Fleet & MRO Forecast databases, and Aviation Week Intelligence Network’s (AWIN) military aircraft Program Profiles. The role will have specific responsibility for the North American military aircraft market. This will involve developing subject matter expertise in relevant military aircraft programs, opportunities for our customers, and market dynamics within the region. In addition to this core work you will also be expected to develop deep knowledge of the U.S. defense budget and become the in-house expert on this topic. As part of your role you will also be tasked with coordinating Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests with the U.S. government in order to obtain relevant data.

Role Accountability and Duties:

• Maintain data on military aircraft fleets, deliveries and retirements for Aviation Week Network’s Military Fleet Discovery and Military Fleet & MRO Forecast databases
• Contribute to the creation and updating of detailed military aircraft program profiles
• Provide analysis on the U.S. defense budget, primarily through analysis of the annual President’s Budget Request and associated documentation
• Coordinate AWN’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) submissions to the U.S government
• Provide briefings to Aviation Week clients on your areas of responsibility
• Support related consultancy projects as required
• Support the growth of Aviation Week Network’s defence data business

Qualifications

Required:

• Proven ability to collect, organise, and analyse datasets to identify trends and provide insight
• Proven ability to write qualitative analysis on highly technical areas
• A strong interest in, and understanding of, military aircraft programs and markets
• Understanding of critical customer requirements within the aerospace and defence sector
• A strong work ethic, proactive approach, and a passion for the military aviation sector

Desirable:

• Direct experience of working in the defence industry, ideally in the military aerospace sector
• Knowledge of the related technologies, domains, and competitive landscape
• Experience in delivery of consultancy, strategy development, and/or competitor intelligence
• Experience of delivering public/client facing briefings
• Experience supporting written editorial products and/or detailed analytical reports
• Advanced excel and PowerPoint skills
• Language skills would also be highly beneficial

The pay range for this position is $63,750.00 - $75,000.00 depending on experience.
