Job Summary
Lead cross-functional car quality and reliability management team, creating and managing processes to improve fleet performance. Create processes to monitor,reduce and eliminate line of road delays. Review all MID/FRA inspections and provide formal follow up to AAR/FRA for all exceptions or violations. Serve on AAR committees as CSX representative. Drive improvements and efficiencies of train inspection/repair requirements ensuring workforce compliance. Direct ongoing enhancements of mechanical technology systems used for train inspections and car repair billing. Promote developement and integrate impactful technologies into CSX's operations to improve safety, reduce risk, increase efficiency and improve service to CSXT customers. Oversee CSXT maintenance vendors performing inspections and repairs to freight cars on CSXT lines. Conduct field evaluations of car inspection and repair procedures ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, rules and policies. Manage improvement projects, and other initiatives. Provide subject matter expertise for various groups within the organization such as; Law Department, Safety, Train Handling, PTC and others.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
- Review line of road separations, mechanical car delays and failures to determine cause and validate steps to prevent future occurrences
- Lead cross-functional teams to conduct reliability process audits
- Work with Technology team to ensure Car Repair billing and Mechanical Train information systems are reliable and drive new improvements
- Oversee implementation and maintenance of car quality and reliability processes and car data metrics
- Develop and prepare senior leadership briefings
- Review and ensure implementation of all regulatory required training for Mechanical Car employees
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 7 or more years Supervisory experience required in a technical field
Equivalent Minimum Qualifications
- Associates degree from an accredited institution required in Engineering, Operations, Process Improvement or Information Technology
- 5 or more years of Supervisory experience required in a technical field
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree from an accredited institution required in Engineering, Operations, Process Improvement or Information Technology
- 10 or more years of Supervisory experience in a technical field
Knowledge and Skills
- Railroad industry knowledge
- Regulatory (Federal Railroad Administration) knowledge
- Knowledge of AAR regulatory standards
- Knowledge of Transportation Systems
- Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Broad knowledge of railroad operations
- Project management skills, consulting skills and time management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership/executives & community
- Freight car inspection and repair knowledge
Job Requirements
- Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non-standard work week)
- Work outside in all weather conditions
- Work with equipment that intensifies the heat factor at times
- Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, safety vest, and safety glasses
- Work hours include rotating on-call responsibilities which may be on weekends or outside standard work hours
- Willing and able to work different shifts as assigned in a 24/7 operation (including weekends and holidays)
