Senior Software Engineer

Responsibilities:
- Review all software technical material (including space vehicle system & subsystem interface documentation, requirements flowed down, standard software documentation, code, test cases, test results) drafted, produced for review and for approval by the Development Contractor(s) to assess, identify and provide comments on completeness, accuracy, and any discrepancies. The assessment includes identifying any potential risk to the product development for a complete quality product delivered on-time
- Assess and report on all software metrics, software schedules, budget allocation, Integrated Master Schedule, earned value and development teams(s) weekly progress for completeness, accuracy, discrepancies and risk to producing a completed quality product on time
- Participate and report on development contractor’s processes and monitor their adherence to their defined software development process. For Agile, it includes participation in agile increment/sprint planning, scrums, sprint demonstrations and retrospectives as an observer and reporting any progress, concerns, issues, and risks to Space Force personnel. This effort also includes all technical reviews and lead/management reviews. The participation and review requires cordial, concerning relationship with the development contractor’s team and leadership with a working relationship to discuss concerns, provide technical review comments and understand issues
- Report and track development Contractor(s) progress, issues, course of actions and risks to Space Force acquisition personnel on development of each software product(s) (includes development, maintenance & use of software integration lab), delivery schedules and any impacts to other parts of the program. Work with Space Force personnel in their reporting to leadership, addressing their action items and responding to Request For Information
- Review software acquisition/logistic strategy, development acquisition statement of work, and development contractor proposal. Proposal assessment includes developing an independent estimate of the software development and software Integration Lab scope, review contractor’s basis of estimate for completeness, applicability and inline with planned scope, and working with the Cost Analysis team with an industry standard Cost Model
- Review software assurance material as well as coordinate with the Space Force Cyber team on flow down requirements, assessments and development Contractor’s plans. Monitor progress, any issues and risks by the development Contractor on the software assurance in their software products
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math; Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other related degree)
• 8 years of related professional experience (or a Master’s degree with 5 years of related experience).
• Experience organizing and leading developer teams to develop software capability in response to externally generated requirements.
• Strong coding skills (Python and Rust programming languages strongly preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to build, integrate, and troubleshoot software components.
• Active DoD TS/SCI clearance is required to be considered for this position
Preferred Skills and Experience:
• General knowledge of autonomous software systems and frameworks.
• General knowledge of AI/ML software and techniques.
• General knowledge of DevOps practices and tools (Jira, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, etc.)
• Extensive, specialized knowledge and demonstrated leadership performing agile software development.
• An active DoD security clearance.
Compensation:
- The salary for this position ranges from approximately $150,000 to $170,000 depending on relevant experience and qualifications.
