Requirements

The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Georgetown University began in 1820, a little over three decades after founder John Carroll established what was originally known as Georgetown College in 1789. From that initial launching of a year-long concentration in philosophy and mathematics, to the introduction of our first doctoral program in 1896, and the formal admission of women to graduate study in 1943, we celebrate the members of our community both past and present, women and men for others who contributed to the global community for over 200 years with their research, service and teaching.

The Research Specialist 1 will assist with tasks associated with research activities conducted by Dr. Diana Owen of the Communication, Culture, and Technology (CCT) program at Georgetown University. The position supports activities including: Data collection and analysis to determine the effectiveness of professional development programs on civics/social studies/American government teachers and the influence of curricular interventions on students; Writing of reports, research briefs, and one-pagers on CERL’s research and activities, and; The organization of a research conference. Duties include by are not limited to:

  • Track study participants, collecting, collating, and analyzing interview data.

  • Collect and analyze student media literacy data/written materials.

  • Work with teacher and student survey data, reporting on research findings.

  • Disseminate research findings and activities.

  • Assist with the administration of the research program and with the organization of a conference on affective political polarization.

Work Interactions

The Research Specialist position supports the administrative, research, and evaluation functions of the JMLPE. The position reports to Dr. Diana Owen, Professor in the Communication, Culture, and Technology program, who is CERL’s director and principal investigator. The position assists Dr. Owen in carrying out the research required by grants awarded to CERL. The position is integral to the research function of Georgetown University and to the goals of supporting large, grant-funded projects.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Master's degree, and at least 2 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and work experience); Doctoral degree preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to perform independently, communicate scientific results, and participate in a highly collaborative environment

  • Must possess a strong work ethic and be self-motivated

  • Must have knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices, and methods

  • Computer literacy and strong statistical, analytical, and research skills; SPSS skills preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Time management, attention to detail, and organization skills are essential

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$41,926.00 - $65,090.00
