The Head of Employee Relations (U.S. Markets, Banking, Services, Client and Functions) will lead a team of Human Resources professionals in the U.S., who provide management and investigation of complex employment-related concerns. The role will join the Global ER & HR Policy Senior Leadership team and includes the following major areas of responsibility:
Responsibilities:
- Management of a large team of ER investigators & managers of ER investigators and analysts; including both day-to-day work and driving ongoing development and improvement at the individual and team levels
- Responsible for timely and efficient investigation and resolution of complex employment-related concerns in the U.S. in Markets, Banking, Services, Client and Functions, including concerns raised through Citi’s Employee Hotline or other escalation channels
- Partner with HR Legal, Citi’s Ethics Office, Citi Security & Investigative Services, and Independent Compliance Risk Management in the resolution of employment-related concerns that cross escalation channels
- Track and analyze trends, diagnose root causes, and develop recommendations for corrective strategies with regards to investigations
- Drive the appropriate link between conduct and performance/compensation, ensuring that substantiated matters are handled in accordance with Citi’s Global Disciplinary Review Policy, and applicable local procedures, as well as Citi’s Accountability Framework
- Facilitate and otherwise participate in the Citi disciplinary process including leading disciplinary review panels
- Participate in a range of initiatives, audits and regulatory exams involving investigations, escalation of concerns and disciplinary matters which includes direct engagement with regulators
- Work with HR Legal and other members of Citi’s Legal team in the investigation of and response to agency charges and litigation
- Critical thinking to review and credibly challenge investigation findings
- Adhere to established and evolving standards for detailed, auditable and required documentation
- Act as a change agent to identify and provide solutions for enhancements and efficiencies in the ER investigative and related processes
- Provide consultation, guidance and coaching to Human Resources and business partners on the appropriate handling and resolution of employee relations matters
- Participate in a range of initiatives to foster and maintain a robust risk and control culture
- Partner with HR Policy in areas of commonality, including both policy operations and policy initiatives, to provide employee relations input and expertise
Qualifications/Experience:
- Bachelor’s/Masters degree and/or equivalent experience
- 15+ plus years in Human Resources or related area (such as Employment Law), including experience in senior level roles
- Significant experience in Employee Relations, including knowledge of legal environment, employee discipline, investigation report writing and conflict resolution
- Significant experience in conducting and management of investigations
- Knowledge of employment policies, practices and employment law and regulations
- Technical knowledge of HR systems
- Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills
- Prior global or multi-jurisdiction work experience
- Strong management and leadership skills, including judgment, influencing, feedback, coaching, diversity and collaboration
- Strong operational, controls, risk management, and execution mindset
- Strong communication skills; confident in challenging and being challenged
- The ability to work well under tight time constraints
- Self-motivated and with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
