Job Description

Support Lead Teacher and other Teachers in classroom management to maintain a developmentally appropriate indoor/outdoor preschool classroom. Develop relationships with up to 16 children in the classroom. Demonstrate a beginning knowledge of child development and early childhood education. Assist in classroom and playground set-up and clean-up. Model appropriate teacher language and behavior to Student Teachers, Student Interns, and classroom volunteers. Be an active participant in daily team meetings. Accept professional responsibility and supervision. 

Position Requirements:

  • MA Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) Preschool Assistant Teacher Certification OR coursework/experience that meets minimum requirements for EEC Assistant Teacher qualification.  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field OR working towards Bachelor’s Degree 

  • Some experience with young children in a professional setting.

  • Beginning knowledge of child development and early childhood education. 

  • Recent physical exam determining good health, stating no physical restrictions, and meeting all State of MA Department of Early Education and Care requirements.  

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail.

  • Able to effectively communicate with children, families and co-workers.  

  • Physical capacity to care for young children, including lifting children, sitting on the floor with children, climbing stepstools, lifting and re-shelving curriculum materials, storing and organizing classroom equipment, setting up tables and chairs for research and visiting classes.

This is a part-time position working 16 hours per week. The schedule may vary, but hours are generally 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This is a non-benefited position.

About the Child Study Center

The Child Study Center offers play-based educational programs for toddler and preschool children and their families. Our purpose-built environments are designed for children’s age groups and developmental needs. Integral to our mission as a laboratory preschool affiliated with the Wellesley College Psychology Department is to facilitate and inform research in child development. We also provide training and mentoring in the fields of early childhood education and developmental psychology, and our model educational program uses evidenced-based, developmentally appropriate practices informed by our close ties to research and the wealth of experience of our master teachers.

The indoor classrooms are expansive, full of natural light, and brimming with captivating curricula set up to foster curiosity, creativity, and learning. The playgrounds have beautiful, natural landscapes that provide limitless opportunities for exploration and discovery. Children thrive on the inherent challenge of natural playgrounds and spend significant time outdoors each day. Our mantra - Children are our most treasured guests!
