Johns Hopkins University aims to foster an environment of inclusive excellence, where remarkable scholars from diverse backgrounds can thrive and innovate in a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment. To achieve this, the university and its divisions have committed to investing in pipeline programs to support the recruitment of faculty from diverse backgrounds. The overall goal of the Second Roadmap Faculty Diversity Initiative 2.0 (FDI) is to deepen and expand our commitments around diversity, equity and inclusion, building on what has worked while delving deeper into areas that are vital to the current and long-term success of our institution. To build sustainable pathways for scholars from diverse backgrounds to the professorate, the Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship program will work in concert with the JHU Vivien Thomas Scholars Initiative and the Fannie Gaston Johansson Faculty of Excellence program. Together, these programs will help us achieve the goal of diversifying faculty at Johns Hopkins.

Program Description

The Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship (PPF) program is a flagship component of the Faculty Diversity Initiative 2.0 in the Second Roadmap on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We know from the research that there is a need to both grow the pool of scholars from diverse backgrounds interested in academic careers and to create for these scholars more intentional pathways to the profession. The PPF is designed to make meaningful advancements on this front at Hopkins.  

The goals of the program are to: 

·         Identify, recruit, and support outstanding early career postdoctoral scholars; 

·         Create strategic pathways to STEM faculty positions for graduate students and postdocs from underrepresented groups; and

·         Build community, networking, and mentoring opportunities across the FDI programs. 

A successful nominee will be someone with a diverse background and life experiences, who has the potential for both a successful fellowship and possible future tenure-track faculty appointment at Johns Hopkins.

We plan to support up to 4 Fellows this year.

The fellowship supports:

·         $65,000 salary

·         Benefits

·         $5,000 for research expenses

·         $2,000 for professional development activities

 

 

Qualifications

Eligibility

The PPF program is only open to US citizens and permanent residents.

Applicants may be:

·         Graduate students from Johns Hopkins or other institutions, who have completed a doctoral degree or will have completed their doctoral degree requirements by the fellowship start date

·         Current postdoctoral scholars who received their degrees within the last three years

·         Professional applicants (who have an MD, JD, etc), who are within three years of completing their professional or clinical training

Applicants are welcome from any area of study. Priority will be given to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
