Position:

The Department of Business Law at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will teach business law and have research interests in those areas relevant to our programs.    

In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in the assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Given CSUN’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the successful candidate will help the department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.

Required Qualifications:   

• J.D. or J.S.D. from an ABA-accredited law school at the time of application
• Admission to a state bar at the time of application 
• Previous experience in teaching law, legal studies, or real estate courses at the university level
• The candidate must have satisfied the publication requirements for a Scholarly Academic under the AACSB standards by earning, in the five years preceding the application, a minimum of six points from Categories A and/or B as described in the Intellectual Contributions section of the Nazarian College Handbook (see pages 33 and 34).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience practicing law
• Licensed real estate practice
• A Ph.D., LL.M., M.B.A. or other graduate degree in business, economics, or real estate from a college or university accredited in the United States
• Law review membership, and/or experience as a law clerk at the appellate level in the United States
• Evidence of effective engagement with a diverse student body
• Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students
• Ability to work collaboratively to support the department and the college

Responsibilities:  

The position involves teaching both undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in business law and, if qualified, real estate, supporting extra-curricular student engagement, which may include overseeing student competitions. Faculty members are expected to employ a variety of teaching strategies to enable students to think analytically and to communicate effectively. Law courses are taught using the Socratic method with its goal of participatory learning and the development of reasoning skills. Additionally, faculty members are expected to en
