Job Description

 

Reports To:  Special Education Program Specialist (or designee)

FLSA Status: Exempt

School Classification: Certificated

Pay Schedule: Range 7 ($52.25/hr -$65.44/hr) 

Work Schedule: 190 days/11 months

Location: Remote Office

  

Position Summary:  The adapted physical education teacher provides specialized assessment, instruction, and consultation for students with a wide range of disabilities who require a specialized program in physical education.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Specific responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:

  1. Completes thorough initial evaluations, additional assessments, and eligibility evaluations within school, state, and federal guidelines and develops legally compliant assessment reports and IEP.  

  2. Utilizes comprehensive assessment results in developing appropriate IEP goals and objectives to accommodate the wide variety of individual needs of each student.  

  3. Participates as a member of the IEP team to develop IEP goals, objectives, adaptations, accommodations, modifications, and services; implement and monitor the IEP. 

  4. Provides individualized and small group instruction based on the needs of the students.

  5. Consults with teachers and parents regarding typical gross motor development and appropriate accommodations and/or modifications.  

  6. Maintains accurate documentation as required by law and district policy.  Maintains records of student progress and measures progress toward achieving goals and objectives as stated on the IEP.  

  7. Designs and implements effective positive behavior management strategies to ensure appropriate behavior of students relative to the participation of gross motor activities.  

  8. Attends IEP meetings, professional development training as well as other meetings as requested.

  9. Consults with special education and general education teachers regarding gross motor accommodations and/or modifications as well as specially designed activities.  

  10. Provides in-service training for staff as requested.

 

Other Duties:

  1. Refers all formal disciplinary actions involving students and staff to school management ensuring compliance with the school’s Uniform Complaint Policy and the school’s Uniform Technology Policy; addressing and resolving complaints from students, parents, and staff in a timely manner; and complying with the provisions of California Penal Code Section 11166 (Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act)

  2. Services students during normal business hours unless prior approval has been extended by supervisor

  3. Performs other duties as assigned
