Full-Time Position, Rotating Shifts

JOB SUMMARY:
Provides customer service, de-escalation, monitors and ensures a safe environment and a safe response for our patients, staff, and visitors.   Patrols property responds to calls for assistance, and reports on conditions, objects or persons which may impact the security and/or safety of patients, associates, physicians, visitors, or vendors, and responds according to established policies, procedures and regulations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  1. Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information.  Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
  2. Safeguard people, assets, and property by assisting in the prevention of accidents, theft and vandalism, in accordance with facility and department policies and procedures, as monitored by supervision. Works cross-functionally to ensure safe and secure environments.
  3. Interacts with people (staff, patients, visitors) and maintains designated security posts throughout the facility as directed.
  4. Responds promptly and courteously to calls for assistance by hospital /campus personnel. Performs public service duties as needed (i.e., wayfinding, escorts patients, visitors, or employees; assists persons; opens or locks doors; transports; assists with restraints; lifting of patients), as needed.
  5. Proficient in and utilizes nonviolent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure staff, patients, visitors, and all others remain safe, calm and respected while onsite.
  6. Maintains consistent presence and visibility by performing facility patrols on a frequent basis insuring that: All open and functioning departments are secure and safe for patients, visitors, and personnel. All departments that are closed are locked and secure from intruders. Perimeter entrances and exits are secure at designated hours. Unauthorized persons do not enter the buildings during non‐visiting hours or congregate on the grounds.
  7. Required to acknowledge verbal transmissions and utilize professional communication verbiage.  
  8. Immediately responds to calls for assistance (alarms, codes, and disasters) to control a safe environment, disorderly conduct, or combative individuals.
  9. Reports activities, incidents, and suspicious situations (circumstances, incidents, and persons), according to facility and department policy and procedures.
  10. Investigates security incidents and accidents. Assists in gathering information and evidence. Notifies appropriate authorities or superiors and calls for back-up assistance as necessary.
  11. Assists in maintaining department records, reports, and files as required.
  12. Maintains logs of activities on tour of duty.
  13. Provides written documentation of security activities and incidents (e.g., safety and hazards, accidents, theft, vandalism) and other data requested by supervision in a factual, objective and legible manner.
  14. Investigates reported incidents of unusual circumstances; writes incident reports; documents investigatory steps and results.
  15. Monitors security equipment, such as access control, cameras, panic buttons and patient protection alarms, and the like.
  16. Assists clinical staff in storing patient valuables in safe; to include appropriate department documentation requirements.
  17. Assists with maintaining current information in lost and found logs; notifies individuals when lost items are located.
  18. Operates security vehicles as necessary during the performance of job duties.
  19. Issues warnings for parking violations on Shore Regional Health grounds and reports employee violations.
  20. Responsible for honest behavior in all matters. Complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations; complies with all Joint Commission and other healthcare oversight regulatory requirements.
  21. Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information.  Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
  22. Maintains a very neat and well‐groomed appearance. May be required to work rotating shifts, nights, evenings, days, and on holidays, weekends, or shifts other than that which is considered as the normal work shift. May also be required to work overtime hours.
