Examples of duties
This role supports the health needs of the offender population by delivering direct nursing care and assisting the broader medical team. You will use hands-on clinical skills to support daily health operations and maintain safe care practices.As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will perform the following duties:
- Clinical Support: Provide routine nursing care and assist practitioners and registered nurses during daily procedures
- Health Assessments: Complete screenings and take part in physical health evaluations for offenders
- Medication Duties: Administer medications safely and follow established medical guidelines
- Emergency Response: Assist during medical emergencies and support team efforts to stabilize conditions
- Training Participation: Attend in service sessions and contribute to maintaining compliance with inspection standards
- Health Education: Share basic health related information with staff and offenders when appropriate

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40-hour work week.
- The Department of Corrections is staffed by 3 work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
- 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM; 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM; and 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
- Shift will be 2nd shift: 2:00 pm-10:30 pm
- Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $68,914.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Special Requirements:- This position requires active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practice Nurse in Pennsylvania.
- All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
