Summary

 

Perform tasks involving physical labor at construction site. Will clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, setbraces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, perform demolition activities, and clean uprubble, debris and other waste materials. Will identify and load/offload building materials, machinery, ortools, distributing them to the appropriate locations. May operate hand and power tools of all types: airhammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, measuring equipment, and a varietyof other equipment and instruments. May assist other craft workers. May perform other duties asassigned.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:· Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.· Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporarystructures· Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to theappropriate locations.· Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will beperformed.· Tend pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools, machinery, or equipmentor to heat or move materials.· Mix, pour, or spread concrete, using portable cement mixers.· Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.· Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications,using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

· Proficient with all hand and power small tools· Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses,buildings, or other structures.· Must be willing to work safely and follow all company policies· Knowledge/awareness of safety issues· Ability to perform duties and operation of tools of the trade in strict compliance with OSHA rules· Must maintain consistent and punctual attendance· Work independently with minimal supervision and complete assigned daily tasks· Must be able to follow directions· Work well within a team setting· Ability to interact with both co-workers and clients in a courteous and professional manner

Required Experience:

· 1 year of general labor experience.

Physical Demands:· Lift/push/pull 50lbs to 100lbs on an occasional basis.· Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis.· Will be required to have the ability to bend, squat, crouch, crawl, and kneel.· Will have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, andramps).· Perform prolonged standing (2-3 hour intervals).· Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, above head).· Must have good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.· Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment.· Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes,goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards.· Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.· Able to utilize adequate visual skills.· Ability to work at heights above 12’ while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or man lifts.· Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side andreaching down.· Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size, shape, temperature and textureby means of receptors in the hands and fingers.· Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis.· Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis.· Ability to reach in all directions· Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and movingyour whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling ofmaterials.· Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, moving materials, and manipulatingmaterials.
