Job Description
Seeking a dynamic, self-directed Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) professional with recent manufacturing experience and leadership skills. Reporting to the Associate Director of Safety & Environment, the successful candidate will be a part of a site team that have responsibly for EHS systems and programs at our Company's Wilson, NC facility.
Working within a highly matrixed organization, the person should possess strong emotional intelligence, influencing, problem solving and decision-making experiences. The ability to think strategically and act tactically through site EHS and operational teams is important.
Our Company considers compliance to US and North Carolina regulations and company standards as the operational baseline and the person selected will have this mindset.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
While reporting to the Associate Director of Safety & Environment, act with considerable self -direction, help to ensure site wide EHS compliance and drive personal ownership and accountability for all employees. Coach site operational leaders to be visible EHS advocates. Ensure comprehensive change management of all Company and site initiatives to maintain ongoing compliance with regulatory and Company requirements
Assist in Implementation of our Company’s corporate EHS strategy at the site operations level: evaluate numerous initiatives, ensure robust process, systems, and resources are in place for all areas of accountability, drive internal audit/self-assessment programs to monitor program effectiveness.
Assure completion of all regulatory submissions, notifications, etc. as assigned, to maintain compliance with country, local and company standards.
Ensure systems are in place to track EHS performance metrics within assigned operational area
Partner with GSE Centers of Excellence to develop guidance for site operations on the impact of new regulations and Company requirements and how best to implement as assigned.
Evaluate, with the Engineering Department, the applicable EHS requirements for new projects and processes as well as changes in the existing processes and installation.
Communicate clearly and concisely complex technical and regulatory information to site leaders and operations personnel.
Exercise good judgment to discern critical issues and events for escalation to Associate Director S&E and senior level management.
Qualifications:
Education:
B.S. level degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering or related scientific discipline
Relevant EHS certifications preferred
Experience:
7+ years EHS experience in Chemical and/or Pharmaceutical industries required.
Preferred
Experience in a chemical manufacturing or packaging environment. Strong project management skills, supporting multiple activities/projects simultaneously.
Experience working with EHS regulatory agencies and corporate support functions.
Demonstrated skills in complying with one or more regulatory programs: RCRA, EPA Water and Air, High Risk Work (e.g. elevated work, confined space, hot work, lock out tag out, etc.).
