Your New Role…
This position is responsible for designing compelling covers that honor the powerful legacy of select DC titles while introducing fresh, modern aesthetics to the periodical line. As a key member of the creative team, the position supports the development and production of high-quality comic book periodicals, working closely with editors and production teams to ensure visual consistency, brand alignment, and timely delivery. The role also collaborates across departments to bring dynamic, engaging design concepts to life, contributing to the continued evolution of DC’s visual storytelling.


Your Role Accountabilities…
•    Support the Design Director in the design and digital production of covers for DC periodical print publications.
•    Develop innovative design and typographic solutions for periodicals across various formats, as assigned.
•    Assist with the transfer and organization of the periodical cover schedule, including periodicals, custom, and special projects.
•    Design logos for select periodical titles.
•    Manage cover workflow and approvals in the Design Director’s absence.
•    Collaborate with the Design Director and Editorial team to establish and maintain the visual identity of comic book series and other periodical publications.
•    Oversee project timelines to ensure art assets are completed, approved, and delivered on schedule.
•    Troubleshoot visual challenges and provide hands-on design support as needed.
•    Partner with Production teams to ensure artwork meets all print and digital specifications.
•    Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience…


Work Experience 
•    At least six (6) years of professional experience required, preferably with a publishing environment using Macintosh-based desktop systems.
•    Strong background in art direction, design, and/or illustration, ideally within the comic book, publishing, or entertainment industries is strongly preferred.
•    Prior experience as a cover designer in comics or graphic novels is strongly preferred.


Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification
•    Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience required.
•    Related degree from an accredited art or design school is preferred.


Knowledge and Skills
•    Must have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully (both verbally and in writing) with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization, as well as with external stakeholders (such as vendors.)
•    Must have the ability to successfully work in team environment and interact with other people.
•    Must have the ability to organize, work well under time constraints, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks and project elements simultaneously.
•    Must have the ability to pay close attention to details and handle confidential material.
•    Proficiency using Adobe Creative Cloud software (including Acrobat Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign), Extensis Connect (or other similar font management application), and Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.  
•    Familiarity with comic book art and the various stages of comic book art development (pencils, inks, coloring, lettering) is strongly preferred.
•    Familiarity with digital comic platforms and emerging technologies in visual storytelling preferred.
•    Strong understanding of comic book storytelling, and design principles preferred.
•    Knowledge of typography and logo design specific to comic branding preferred.


Other Requirements
•    Must be able to travel as needed approximately 5% of the time.
