PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT

The Administrative Crime Analyst is geared towards the administrative needs of the department, city management, and community, providing data research and analysis to help prioritize resources and assist with optimizing internal operations.

The salary range for this position is $70,080.00 - $87,600.00 annually.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports a highly motivated specialty unit which requires periods of high demands, and meeting deadlines

  • Conducts ad hoc research at the direction of department leadership and city management

  • Analyzes and interprets crime data and applies statistical methodologies to identify trends, patterns, and series

  • Makes recommendations, projections, and forecasts based on research and analysis

  • Key point of contact for conducting CCJRA and CORA open records requests submitted by media and other community stakeholders

  • Responds to inter and intradepartmental requests for information and disseminates products accordingly

  • Extracts data from a variety of computer systems

  • Prepares detailed statistical reports and research findings

  • Performs additional duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education: 

  • Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or directly related field with courses in research, statistics, and crime analysis

Experience: 

  • Two (2) years of experience conducting law enforcement research or as a crime analyst. 

Licenses and Certifications:

  • None

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or directly related field

  • Three (3) years of experience as a research or crime analyst; experience as an administrative crime analyst is desirable

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of administrative crime analysis, a familiarity with all crime analysis functions (tactical, strategic, investigative, and intelligence), and how each relate to police practices and procedures

  • Experience with RMS, CAD, and NCIC research is required

  • Experience with database querying software and working knowledge of SQL are required

 Abilities: 

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Attention to detail and ability to handle stress in a large law enforcement environment
