Job Summary
The National Practice Lead - Aviation Services is a key national role for an established industry leader, capable to provide business development and growth in services for engineering, architecture, planning, and environmental services. The position will require leadership skills that can be utilized across the Company to collaborate with Michael Baker International staff to ensure growth in reputation and client engagement, and to capture new business at airports nationwide. The National Practice Lead - Aviation Services will develop a national strategic plan and use their industry network to identify/engage new clients and provide pre-marketing, and oversight of winning proposals and interviews for project opportunities. The position will build a professional profile and reputation within the industry at local, regional, and national levels.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide Business Development and Client Engagement strategy to capture new projects and clients and services nationwide, including design-build opportunities.
- Provide leadership in the pursuit, capture, and delivery of all types of Aviation services.
- Develop a Strategic Plan to guide both our short and long-term growth strategy in the Aviation market.
- Maintain awareness of industry developments, funding, legislation, competitor actions, and client initiatives that will impact business.
- Seek opportunities to create visibility through presentations at relevant conferences/meetings; actively participate in planning committees for trade organizations and conferences. Author Technical Papers and present at (and/or attend) relevant conferences.
- Build and maintain effective relationships across Michael Baker offices, external organizations, and potential teaming partners to foster cooperation across relevant fields, including with the design-build community.
- Provide advice and guidance to staff; provide technical credibility to Michael Baker clients and stakeholders.
- Provide assistance to collaborate with and provide assistance to the Regional Practice Leads and Design-Build Lead related to aviation pursuits, lending expertise and strategy.
- Ensure awareness of health and safety in all aspects of design and operations.
- Monitor QA/QC procedures and client requirements for Quality in coordination with the appropriate members of the quality assurance team.
- Contribute to maintenance of the Practice Quality Control Manuals for use by offices across the company and help appropriate members of the quality assurance team perform periodic Discipline Quality Control Audits of offices.
- Implement innovative solutions and undertake quality assurance reviews for projects. Assist in the development of firm-wide talent through coaching and mentoring and identification of technical resources within area of subject matter expertise.
Requirements
- Minimum of 15+ years of aviation experience
- Registered Professional Engineer, Architect, Planner, or related field preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited university.

- Technical excellence with the development of major aviation proposals and pursuits; strong written and verbal skills are required.
- Demonstrated business development experience with Aviation clients.
- Experience working with both commercial and general aviation clients.
- Knowledge of financial aspects of the engineering business.
- Attract and recruit high-end talent to the organization.
- Past demonstrated experience with quality management and implementation/enforcement of QA/QC standards.
- Ability/willingness to travel.
- Ability to facilitate/create training via regular internal webinars/engagements as well as coach and prepare the internal team to present to potential clients.
- Serve as Landside and Airside Specialist.
- Work with clients and Project Principals to develop and negotiate budgets, schedules, and contracts.
- Previous experience leading projects and teams on complex projects and/or airport design and construction projects.
Compensation
The range for this position is $200,000 - $280,000 depending on the skills and experience of the incoming candidate.
