Healthie is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead our solutions engineering and technical support engineering teams, reporting to the CTO. In this player-coach role, you'll provide mentorship, remove roadblocks, and set clear goals for your team. You will align team objectives with company goals by focusing on quarterly and annual KRs and KPIs. Collaboration with support, success, sales, product, and engineering leadership will be crucial to translating business requirements into actionable solutions. Additionally, you'll bring structure to the solutions engineering team through regular 1:1s, career development support, and clear expectation setting. You'll advocate for these teams, develop reporting methodologies, and monitor team performance. The ideal candidate excels in a fast-paced environment, with strong communication skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Responsibilities: What you’ll be doing and held accountable for:

Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Lead a team of software engineers, providing mentorship and career development support.
  • Set clear and measurable goals for the team and conduct regular 1:1s.
  • Mentor direct reports to enhance their technical skills and unblock team members on technical issues.
  • Operate as a hiring manager, responsible for recruitment and team building.

Process and Quality Improvement:

  • Drive the development of high-quality, maintainable software products.
  • Ensure adherence to established software development processes and best practices.
  • Continuously identify areas for improvement, managing technical debt, and implementing processes to increase productivity and software quality.
  • Develop and track relevant metrics, and maintain delivery cadence to reduce defect rates and improve team efficiency.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, QA, and operations.
  • Collaborate with product managers to translate business requirements into development plans.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships, maintaining situational awareness of team goals and communicating progress.
  • Coordinate with leadership to prioritize work, enable self-management, and escalate issues as needed.

Qualifications: What we expect from you:

  • You have a track record of success: 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years of those including experience in a management or leadership role.
  • Tools & Tech Experience: Rails, React, Typescript, GraphQL, Postgres, Redis, Sidekiq, RSpec, and Capybara.
  • You Demonstrate Effective Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage software engineering teams.
  • You Are Technically Proficient and Knowledgeable: Strong technical expertise in software development best practices, processes, and technologies. 
  • You Excel in Communication and Problem-Solving: Excellent communicator, collaborator, problem-solver who possesses strong analytical skills and interpersonal skills.
  • You Are Experienced in Modern Development Practices: Agile development methodologies, modern web application software delivery and shorter release cadence.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills: You care about people - your colleagues, our customers, and everyone around you. People want to work for and with you. You lead with influence, not authority.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written & verbal.
