Job Description

Aviation Week Network is seeking a business editor. Every development in aerospace and defense has become a business event, whether geopolitical clashes, supply chain disruption, RPK forecasts, raw material inflation, labor shortages, business travel demand, space flights and more. Aviation Week customers need more expert insight – they need a leading business reporter to guide them through what is possibly the most decisive era since the dawn of aviation itself.

Aviation Week is an award-winning market intelligence provider that enjoys one of the longest, most well-known, and historically distinguished reputations in aerospace and defense journalism. Our reporters and their stories regularly are cited by other news organizations. They become go-to experts by aerospace and defense leaders and government officials. Sometimes they become part of history themselves.

Now, we seek a business reporter of the highest caliber who can expand our business news coverage as we aim to provide more business intelligence to readers and customers. The ideal candidate is a proven business journalist with an aerospace and defense passion, and someone who enjoys being a “market mover” with scoops, analysis and engaging newswriting and speaking skills.

Role Accountability and Duties:

  • Report and write original daily newsletter and weekly magazine features on business beat
  • Expand business beat coverage, including covering aircraft leasing, repair, and other issues
  • Plan and develop future story ideas for digital, print, and social networks
  • Help conference production teams craft agendas for Aviation Week events
  • Moderate or participate in conferences, podcasts, webinars as A&D business expert
  • Work with executive editor for business, and other editorial managers on assignments
  • Act as subject matter expert on A&D business issues at external events, conferences
  • Collaborate with other staff writers, freelancers, and event staff for content production
  • Participate in daily and weekly online meetings for staff coordination
  • Engage in sustainability, ESG and other corporate goals

Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree preferred
  • Aerospace, defense, aviation, and related subject familiarity
  • Business-reporting experience preferred; desire required
  • Ability to multitask projects with rolling deadlines
  • Public speaking experience preferred or willingness
  • Creative mindset for storytelling and engaging content
  • Desire to travel and engage readers, customers, and partners
  • Familiarity with news organization operations
  • Responsiveness and timely communication skills
  • Clear and clean newswriting ability a priority
