Job Description Summary

This is a temporary part-time clinical position as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) within the College of Nursing. The qualified candidate will provide psychiatric behavioral health services within the MUSC College of Nursing Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Technology Enhanced Residency (PARTNER). The PMHNP will serve as the experienced PMHNP providing direct patient care within an integrated primary care collaborative care model providing behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and adults through telehealth, utilizing synchronous video platforms and an e-consult system. The PMHNP will also provide support and clinical consultation to the PMHNP residents and precept MUSC nurse practitioner students. Upon hire, successful candidates are expected to relocate to the Charleston, South Carolina area.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:  Earned master’s or doctoral degree as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) from an accredited nurse practitioner program. Candidates should be eligible for APRN licensure with prescriptive authority and DHEC licensure by the State of South Carolina, DEA licensure, and hold national certification as a PMHNP.  In addition, candidates will have effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and abilities. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or the Military Training Network. **All certifications and licensures must be current and complete before the start date.


Preferred qualifications: The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in lifespan psychiatric behavioral health care, including a background in collaborative care as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Additionally, the candidate should have expertise in psychopharmacology and prescriptive experience.

Hours Per Week: 20 hours

Scheduled Work Hours: Flexible, Monday-Thursday 8a-5p

Patient Population Focus: Outpatient

Patient Population Age Range:  5 years to death

Location: The role includes in-person commitments in the Charleston area, requiring an on-site presence, and proximity to the area is necessary.

Responsibilities:
Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:
a.    Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
b.    Evaluate and treat based on history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guidelines
c.    Documents and bills for direct care provided
d.    Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
e.    Works to understand the needs of patients and their families and provides recommendations to the primary care provider to assist with care planning and goal-setting 
f.    Assumes responsibility for managing care for assigned patient caseload, establishing protocols with collaborating physician, and monitoring treatment plans and clinical practice. 
g.    Engages in collaborative care, providing behavioral health support to the patient and primary care provider 
h.    Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
i.    Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization
j.    Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in continuing education
k.    Maintain PMHNP credentials, licensure, and national certifications required to practice as a PMHNP.
l.    Adheres to clinical schedule, including MUSC Health holidays, as assigned and communicates 30 days in advance of any non-emergent changes to schedule with community partner
m.    Identifies opportunities for student learning, supervises and precepts MUSC APRN students and PMHNP Fellows in clinical settings 
n.    Maintain professional collaboration with the collaborating physician and clinical partners.
o.    Adhere to MUSC College of Nursing and MUSC Health policies
p.    Supports the MUSC’s values for an environment and culture of respect, inclusivity, equity, and belonging
