General Notes
Full-time, temporary position. Initial assignment will be for six months with subsequent renewal of employment will be based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding. Requires working flexible hours to include weekends, evenings, or early mornings. Requires working with rodent models.
Purpose
To support research in lab of Dr. Michela Marinelli for the Department of Neuroscience.
Responsibilities
Perform (or assist in performing) behavioral experiments in rodent models, building of needed supplies, simple computer programming, and entering/analyzing data.
Perform (or assist in performing) rodent husbandry, surgery, pre- and post-operative care, and tissue collection.
Perform (or assist in performing) immuno-histological and anatomical analysis of brain tissue (brain sectioning, immunohistochemistry, mounting, and bright field or confocal analysis of tissue, entering and analyzing data with respect to its anatomical and immunohistochemical characteristics).
Perform (or assist in performing) electro-physiological recording in in-vivo rats.
Perform (or assist in performing) intravenous surgeries or stereotaxic surgeries in rodents.
Ensure that needed supplies and chemicals for experiments are available in a timely manner (e.g., building of intravenous catheters, preparing solutions, inventorying).
Maintain a tidy/clean lab and animal room (e.g., weekly wiping, sweeping, and mopping).
Collect, organize, and analyze data and report results orally and in writing.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, life science or related field.
Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and techniques.
Prior experience working with rodents in a biological research lab and demonstrated ability to carry out research.
Preferred qualifications:
Proficiency with at least one of the following: rodent microsurgery, rodent behavioral procedures, electrophysiological recording in in-vivo rats, microscopy.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Extreme proficiency with excel and data management/analysis programs.
Proficiency with other Windows programs (Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Proficiency with literature searches.
Salary Range
$31,200 + depending on qualifications.
