Job Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as Resident Engineer and/or Structures Representative for transportation infrastructure construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong civil engineering background with experience in Bridge and Structural Engineering; they will possess experience leading infrastructure projects, such as roads, bridges, utilities, and drainage systems, from initiation through to successful completion.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

· On-Site Supervision: Under the direction of a Senior Transportation Engineer, Caltrans, the incumbent performs a wide variety of engineering work in either an office or a field setting

 

· Leadership:     May act as a Structure Representative for Caltrans to ensure contractors are in compliance with the contract documents (Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, contracts plans and Special Provisions) and/or in construction support role to the field engineers

 

· Coordination & Communication: Serve as the primary liaison between the project team, contractors, subcontractors, and stakeholders, ensuring smooth communication and resolution of any issues.

 

· Construction Management:   Conduct routine inspections of the work being performed, including reviewing materials, work quality, and adherence to design drawings.

Work generally consists of five eight-hour days and may require travel, overtime, weekend and night work

Draft contract change order. Make the necessary calculations to justify the money and time adjustments.

Perform the drafting and engineering necessary for making revisions to the contract plan.

Assist with construction claim and Caltrans dispute resolution.

Identify the need for and prepare contract related documents for submission to the contractor.

Assist with calculations related to and the review of submittals received from the contractor, including the ability to perform calculations to determine stresses within the various elements of temporary structures.

Perform the required calculations to establish and/or verify the surveying control line and grade.

Take appropriate action when materials and workmanship are non-conforming, which may include ordering the removal and replacement of non-conforming work.

 

· Safety Compliance: Ensure the site follows all health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations to create a safe working environment.

 

· Documentation: Maintain daily logs, inspection records, and other documentation as required by the client and funding agencies.

 

Qualifications:

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.

 

Experience:

Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction engineering, with minimum 5 years’ experience working with Caltrans governing documents including the Bridge Construction Records & Procedures, other Structure Construction (SC) manuals, the Construction Manual, Caltrans' Safety Manuals, Standard Specifications, and Special Provisions.
