Schedule: This is a full-time evening shift lead phlebotomist position working 7 on / 7 off rotation, Wednesday to Tuesday. Shifts are 10-hours scheduled from 3:00pm – 1:30am.This position requires every other weekend and every other holiday commitment. Weekends and holiday shifts include differential pay.

Qualified candidates will have at least two years of experience in phlebotomy in a hospital setting. Highly qualified candidates will have experience in a leadership role in phlebotomy in a hospital setting. 

Job Summary:

Under specific direction, supervises assignments within the phlebotomy section and acts as a resource to phlebotomists. Collects and prepares blood specimens and other samples for laboratory testing. Maintains collection areas and equipment and performs record keeping duties.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Schedules, plans, delegates and supervises assignments. Provides feedback during performance review process.
  • Ensures daily workflow is completed following established procedures.
  • Assists leadership on projects of medium to high complexity and size.
  • May orient new staff.
  • Assists phlebotomy staff with competency assessments.
  • Collects blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary technique and processes the samples according to laboratory guidelines.
  • Delivers samples to the laboratory in established time frames.
  • May perform waived testing.
  • May perform a variety of administrative duties to support the department.
  • Identifies patients using two identifiers.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience

EXPERIENCE

  • Two years' experience in phlebotomy

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
