CTE Engineering Foundations Teacher

Primary Purpose:
Southwest Independent School District is seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and student-centered Engineering Foundations Teacher to join our team and help inspire the next generation of engineers, designers, innovators, and problem-solvers.
This position is ideal for an educator or industry professional with a strong background in engineering, design, technical drafting, and industry-based problem solving, who is passionate about preparing students for success in high-demand STEM careers.
Qualifications:
Required Education/Certification:
Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications:
Option 1 � Certification Path
? Hold a valid Texas teaching certificate appropriate for the assignment and/or
? Hold or be eligible for an approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification in an engineering, technology, or related field
Option 2 � Industry Experience Path
? Have a minimum of five (5) years of verifiable full-time work experience in the field of engineering or a closely related technical/industry field
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Real-world engineering experience, technical knowledge, and engaging, hands-on instruction into the classroom to create meaningful learning experiences for students.
Provide rigorous and engaging instruction in foundational engineering concepts, design processes, technical drafting, modeling, and problem-solving strategies aligned to CTE, STEM, and college/career readiness standards.
Ability to bridge classroom learning with real-world industry expectations by exposing students to authentic engineering practices, design software, collaborative projects, and career pathways.
Creativity cultivation, innovation, critical thinking, and technical skill development while helping students understand how engineering impacts the world around them.
Ability to connect classroom instruction to real-world engineering practices.
Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
A passion for helping students pursue careers in engineering, manufacturing, architecture, design, and technical trades.
Strong understanding of engineering concepts and design principles
Knowledge of the engineering design process
Ability to teach foundational engineering in a way that is engaging and student-friendly
Familiarity with:
- AutoCAD
- Technical drafting
- Design thinking
- Modeling and prototyping
- STEM and CTE instructional strategies
Ability to create a classroom culture focused on innovation, collaboration, and excellence
Commitment to student success and college/career readiness
Preferred Experience:
Experience using AutoCAD
Experience with CAD, drafting, 3D modeling, or technical design software
Background in engineering design, technical drawing, fabrication, or applied engineering
Experience teaching or mentoring high school students
Experience in project-based learning and/or STEM education
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Deliver high-quality instruction in engineering foundations, technical design, and engineering problem-solving.
- Teach and model the engineering design process.
- Provide instruction in technical drafting, engineering graphics, and design software.
- Integrate AutoCAD and/or similar engineering design software into classroom instruction.
- Create engaging, hands-on, project-based learning experiences.
