Endowed Chair and Director, Burghardt Food Allergy Center- Faculty

Department Overview

The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine (PACCSM) in the Department of Medicine seeks a MD/DO candidate for a faculty position to fill the role of Endowed Chair and Director of the Burghardt Food Allergy Center. 

 

PACCSM provides expert diagnosis and care of patients with lung diseases in our Pulmonary Clinic; allergy, asthma, and immunologic disorders in our Allergy Clinic; and of critically ill patients in our Intensive Care Unit.

 

As part of PACCSM, the Allergy Program provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnostic, and management services for adults and children with allergy, asthma, and immunologic disorders. In addition to our commitment to outstanding clinical care, PACCSM is home to several outstanding research programs, conducting basic science research as well as clinical trials across a broad spectrum of subject matter. Function/Duties of Position

The full-time annual base salary range for this position is $260,000-$307,623; commensurate with experience and rank. Base pay does not include incentive pay, hiring bonuses, or additional benefits such as retirement contributions.

 

The duties of this position include:

 

• Clinical (40-80%): Provision of outpatient and inpatient clinical duties in the Allergy and Immunology Section of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, as assigned by the Division Head.
• Administrative, Educational and Academic (20%): The position will fill the role of the Endowed Chair and Director of the Burghardt Food Allergy Center. Educational responsibilities include presenting at and otherwise participating in division grand rounds and other conferences and may include teaching residents and medical students. Further responsibilities will be developed in conjunction with the division chief.
• Research (0-50%): Conduct independent clinical, translational, or basic science research.

 

The Director will be responsible for expenditures from an endowment aimed towards research and teaching in food allergy. The successful applicant will have current or a substantial history of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, industry-sponsored studies, or funded investigator-initiated trials related to basic or translational research in food allergy. Laboratory space and start-up funds for the Director's research program may be provided, and the Director will have a nationally competitive salary. Resources for recruitment of additional research-intensive faculty may be made available through various sources in order to continue to grow the Section. The Section is supported by a strong Department of Medicine, and a research-focused Dean and Vice Dean for Research. The practice plan provides significant infrastructure and logistic support for addressing clinical issues as they arise. The Section trains medical residents and offers a fellowship in Allergy/Immunology. The Section also provides clinical coverage at area hospitals and clinics, including Oregon Health and Science University Hospital and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

 

Teaching responsibilities may include teaching Allergy and Immunology fellows as well as residents from multiple specialties and medical students. Clinical responsibilities may include proficiency in treating both common and complex allergic and immunologic disorders in both inpatient and outpatient practice at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. The provider may also be required to spend part of their clinical time at nearby satellite locations in the Portland metro region.

 

There will be opportunities to lead and coordinate the development of multi-disciplinary clinics and expansion of clinical trials.

Required Qualifications

• MD or other qualifying doctorate degree
• ABIM and/or ABP certification or eligibility for certification
• Completion of an accredited fellowship in Allergy/Immunology
• Expertise in allergic and immunologic diseases for a diverse patient population

Preferred Qualifications

• Ideal candidate should have an interest and experience in education, systems improvement initiatives, and/or clinical research related to food allergies
• Candidates with diverse experience are highly encouraged to apply
