This position is in the College of Nursing (CoN) and reports directly to the Program Director. The position combines teaching and service. We define teaching as creating environments facilitating student learning and attaining expected outcomes at the course and program levels. Faculty has ownership for the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of the curricula within the College of Nursing, which are designed to prepare graduates to provide nursing care in a dynamic health care environment. Service implies using academic and professional expertise to serve the University, the nursing profession, and the community. Service consists of meaningful activities that promote the image, mission, or strategic priorities of the University, the well-being of relevant individuals or groups among the community of interest, or the professional growth of faculty.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This is an annual, open-rank, full-time position teaching in our pre-licensure program. In addition to teaching, you will be expected to engage in service, which is included in your full-time contract. There is expected on-campus/online/hybrid participation in program activities from 3 - 5 days per week or equivalent. On-campus presence is negotiated with the Program Director on an individual basis. The faculty develops hybrid and/or online teaching methods as a group consensus. Individual faculty does not determine online teaching unless approved by the Course Manager and Program Director. This position is open until filled. This position reports to the Program Director.
Primary Areas of responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Teaching (92%)*
Creates a dynamic, learner-centered environment that uses various teaching methods that support the diverse learning needs of the student population and are based on educational theory and evidence-based teaching and clinical practices.
Models reflective and critical thinking and serves as a coach and mentor for students; confers with them on their progress and assists them in developing learning plans to facilitate achievement of course objectives.
Planning courses, sequencing, and scheduling; lecturing and/or coordinating guest faculty; composing and administering examinations; reviewing student projects; supervising independent study projects as needed; grading and conducting competent evaluations.
Maintains and enhances competence in subjects being taught.
Actively engages in accreditation and academic program review activities.
Participates in the Faculty Professional Development workshops and CoN meetings to better support student learning experiences and growth.
Confers with colleagues to ensure the integrity of the courses across programs and the curriculum.
Documents student progress on appropriate forms and notifies appropriate leadership team members of at-risk students or unusual occurrences on time.
Meets with at-risk students and provides support for academic success.
Meets with clinical faculty before the start of each semester to ensure consistency in clinical instruction.
