Position Summary:
The Scientist, Bioinformatics & Microbiology, will be responsible for driving improvements in our understanding of stool donors to optimize business output and manufacturing costs. This role will employ data science to identify key patterns in the donor population that predict bacterial spore levels. This role will also perform experiments on site in the Lower Gwynedd, PA lab to develop new assays to measure donor bacterial spore levels and predict manufacturing yields. The role will utilize a LIMS system to both store data and collect data from for analysis and build-out/validation of new LIMS functionality will be a small part of this role.

Key Responsibilities:
Bioinformatics and Data Science:
• Perform routine analyses and dashboarding using R-studio (or other Data Science platforms) on donor data to track average bacterial spore titer levels
• Ability to utilize statistical, machine learning, and AI methodologies to predict bacterial spore titer levels
• Perform complex analyses using R-studio (or other Data Science platforms) on donor metadata (such as lifestyle and diet data) to correlate with bacterial spore levels 

 

Microbiology:
• Alongside remote and local senior scientists, perform studies to develop new assays that can better measure stool bacterial spore levels.
• Alongside remote and local senior scientists, perform studies to develop new assays that predict manufacturing yield at the donor-level.
• Support in-house microbiome WMS sequencing library preps as needed.

 

LIMS Systems:
• Experience using and configuring LIMs system, especially Benchling Validated Cloud LIMS
• Experience architecting and building out data engineering solutions to build a data lake environment
 

Experience and Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree (science, math, or data analytics strongly preferred) with 3+ years in the Pharmaceutical/Bio Pharma, or academic setting
• Master’s degree (science, math, or data analytics strongly preferred) with 1+ years in the Pharmaceutical/Bio Pharma, or academic setting
• 2+ years of R-studio/data analytics experience
• 2+ years of lab experience with some microbiology component (bacterial culture). Significant undergraduate research experience will be considered.
• Experience with LIMS data entry (academic or industry)

• Proven ability to work cross-functionally and lead teams
